as far as its been reported, the shorter seasons were chosen by the showrunners. I'm sure HBO would've loved more GOT, that's why they're working on a prequel now.

I feel like next season is going to go at an ever quicker pace. I hope it doesn't affect the overall outcome.

I feel like the showrunners simply wanted to move on. They had a set number of episodes to complete the story from the beginning in mind as well.

damn! I'd be pissed if this had been spoiled for me since back then. I think that since this show has such a passionate fan base, there are some things that will be correctly theorized. Yet, it also seems that there are some who are obtaining information and passing it off as theories/rumors...
