I'm guessing the Lakers didn't want to (or simply just don't have any to trade) surrender a future 1st to get Lawson.

You would have to think some other team would offer something better than the combination of Swaggy P/Kelly/Whatever else though. There's a reason why Mitch hasn't been able to trade Swaggy and his relatively cheap contract. But hey, if Mitch can work something out, why not?
