I'm on the fence with the chukkas as well. Only thing throwing me off is the contrast blue stitching. Plus, I already have a milkshake wingtip.
I believe it takes as short as 45 minutes to as much as a few hours but never more than a day.

I would say, suede protector spray and wait a day to brush it off (don't brush it on the same day you use it because if there are wet stuff, you'd probably end up smudging or smearing the dirt).

Did you intentionally get 9 for the leathers and 8.5 for the rest since the material is softer and more pliable? Or 9 was a wrong choice but couldn't return it anymore?
