It wouldn’t remove the shine? I also unfortunately don’t own one. What about a dry towel with the iron? Instead of the damp towel.

P.S. For what it’s worth, my blue plastic “XI” cover that comes inside the box has a peel away film over it. I’ve heard conflicting reports on that, so I’m throwing it out there just in case.
