Got these in a couple months ago from StockX. I put in a bid for $240 several months ago for the hell of it, and couldn’t believe it got accepted and actually turned out to be legit. By far my luckiest/craziest pickup in a long time.
I asked the same thing about the FTB pack, but I don't think any explanation was ever given by Nike. I definitely consider the 2K5s to be part of his line though. He had one of his most memorable games while wearing 2K5s (62 in 3 quarters against Dallas).
IVs are hard to come by these days, but I still think $400 is too much for a DS pair of Gold Medals. You could probably find them for $250ish or under, worn pairs for less. The size you wear makes a difference too.
I don't think MJ ever wore the Converse Fastbreak while he was at UNC, which I've seen a few people on IG complaining about. I think he only wore the Converse Pro Leather and Pro Star during his UNC days, and the Fastbreaks were worn during the '84 Olympics but in a white/navy colorway, not...
Got it. I just remember the first games being a more limited release than the others, but wasn't sure on the numbers besides hearing 500-1000 tossed around a few times.
Man...not a fan of that shade of purple they used. In general, I do prefer new/original colorways over older ones being redone for new models. Didn't really like how they rehashed a bunch of older ones on the EM XIs, but maybe they figured that would help with sales.
IIRC, the first games were a limited release too originally, something like 500 or 1000 pairs, so I wasn't totally surprised that the retro of that colorway was also limited. That said, I hope future releases, especially GRs that originally got heavily discounted, will be widespread for everybody.
Kobe's mentioned during a couple past interviews that he's already working on the next model (AD 2, 13, whatever it's called), so I think there will at least be one more model.
Guess I just see it more like @Mastralf mentioned, and I'd consider colorways with both purple and gold/yellow to be "true" Laker colorways. I look at white, black, or grey as just neutral base colors for most shoes, and in those cases, the other colors on the shoe are what define its overall...
That's an unusually strict criteria for Laker colorways that I've never heard of lol. You wouldn't count any of the away colorways with purple, gold, and black as Laker colorways even if they're what Kobe and his teammates wore on the court?
It's a reference to Oscar Schmidt who's one of Kobe's childhood idols. He played in the Brazilian League from '96-'03 and had 8 scoring titles, hence the 8 stars.
