    steppingrazor spoke about it on this very thread. basically strip the foam good quality acrylic with plently of fabric medium. i use some non permanent masking fluid too, its basically liquid latex so it gives it that ability to stretch a bit more.

    and that dye is the same kind of thing that ive tried. it gives rubber that playground swing kind of patchy rubber colour, as if its been recycled. its good for some jobs where that effect could look good but as you say its expensive and theres no getting a flat solid colour in my experience.
