I think you misread my tone in my post.  I wasn't "worked up" about the tongue, I was simply confused as to whether or not they were different variations of the sneaker (e.g. whether the longer tongue was indicative of the Responsive Sockliner, while the shorter was the Soft, or vice versa - or...

I have beef with the fact that I have to pay a $40 premium for the Royal Blue color, which they freely advertise on the site, just because they consider it an iD color. Also, what's up with the tongue discrepancies in the pictures.  Their official response is that it's just "pulled out more"...
