No, you're changing the whole problem. Stop.
Obviously never used a calculator before.

You're right. NEVER.

1...right?

No matter how you do that equation, its going to be 1

This problem is a little more misleading than that. That equation is just awkward on the eyes at first glance.

i think with that equation, what he was trying to show was if you do the addition first it would be 1-2= -1

It will not always be 1. For all the people that are saying PEMDAS infers that Multiplication has more priority than Division, this means that Addition has more priority than Subtraction.  Therefore they would compute this 1-1+1 = 1-(2) = -1.

Case in point... the answer is 288

For real though, how can you say I changed the equation putting in wolfram? It is calculating it the same way anyone else should. For face value what you see in the equation.
Everyone knows 9+3 is done first, it is in the parentheses and you get 12. Then you have 48/2(12). AS IT IS WRITTEN, you have Division and then Multiplication, which are in fact on the same level of the order of operations. So you get 24 x 12 = 288.

you guys can not be cereal here.

48/ 2(9+3)

parenthesis first:

48/ 2(12)

distribute the 2 to the parenthesis.

48/24= 2

With that one, you must not be tricked. -1+1 = 0. You just gotta see the 0 in front of the 1.

"b(c+d)" is one entity. You can't separate them. Thats like trying to make a triangle have angles that don't equal 180 degrees; it's not possible. If anything you'll have to distribute to make b(c+d) = bc+bd. That's why the parenthesis has primacy over every other operation.
