Cats are infamously disobedient, but the CIA believed that with the right training, they could become spies. The organization also wanted to exploit another of the animal’s traits: curiosity. It thought that a cat wired to record sound would be able to come and go unnoticed, and with the use of audio cues, could be controlled to go where it would record interesting sounds–like talks between Soviet leaders.
The cruel story of Acoustic Kitty in its most basic form crops up in a number of places. As told by Victor Marchetti, who was formerly an assistant to the CIA’s director, it basically involved creating a FrankenKitty. “They slit the cat open, put batteries in him, wired him up,” Marchetti is usually quoted as saying. “They made a monstrosity.”
It sounds sort of believable. After all, the 1960s CIA was up to a lot of kooky stuff. But the story of Project Acoustic Kitty isn’t that simple, writes Matt Soniak for Mental Floss. It “actually took five years to complete,” he writes. After all, creating a high-tech cat was no small task in an era of reel-to-reel audio recording and room-sized computers. Not just that, the cats had to still look like cats–with no weird protrusions or suspicious scars. Soniak explains:
Working with outside audio equipment contractors, the CIA built a 3/4-inch-long transmitter to embed at the base of the cat’s skull. Finding a place for the microphone was difficult at first, but the ear canal turned out to be prime, and seemingly obvious, real estate. The antenna was made from fine wire and woven, all the way to the tail, through the cat’s long fur to conceal it. The batteries also gave the techies a little trouble, since the cats’ size limited them to using only the smallest batteries and restricted the amount of time the cat would be able to record.
Why are you here? What’s 4chan crap doing here
Agenda 2030Most likely something along the lines of his Fyre Fest apology: “I’m sorry, but none of this is my fault.”
I’ve yet to hear any air-tight conspiracy theories about 2020.

Change will be in the air as Saturn enters Aquarius, for it will immediately begin forming a catalytic square aspect with Uranus in Taurus. Saturn will not complete its square aspect with Uranus during 2020 however, as it will station retrograde on May 10 at two degrees of Aquarius to turn backward toward Capricorn. We will feel the volatizing impact of Uranus through questioning the boundaries we erect in our life and beginning a process of restructuring them. Rather than holding on to old conceptions we have been attached to, we will become more interested in experimenting and beginning to break free from whatever the status quo has been for us.
In addition to the influence of Uranus creating an atmosphere of breakthroughs during the initial foray of Saturn into Aquarius, there will be an additional impetus for radical change coming from Venus stationing retrograde in Gemini on May 13. Venus will remain retrograde until stationing direct at six degrees of Gemini on June 25, a week before Saturn leaves Aquarius to return to Capricorn. Thus, the entirety of Venus inciting revisioning and revaluation in relationships during its retrograde movement will occur during Saturn’s time in Aquarius. Altogether, we can expect deep-seated changes in our underlying values and the way they manifest into aspirations in relationships and work. The capacity of Saturn in Aquarius to detach from emotional overwhelm in order to analyze the next steps that are necessary to take for growth can be a source of strength during this time.
Saturn will return to Aquarius on December 17 with Jupiter close behind, leading to a conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn in the first degree of Aquarius on December 21. Since the union of Jupiter and Saturn will set major astrological themes for the next twenty years in motion, Saturn in Aquarius will be an aid in analyzing the present structures in your life to realize whatever needs to be catalyzed for growth.
During retrograde motion, Saturn strays farther from the ecliptic plane than Jupiter (though less far than any of the other planets). This means that during Saturn retrograde, we may at some point feel somehow out of touch or out of step with “normal”—and it will be around serious issues that carry weight, like rules and deadlines. Saturn has a lot to do with social expectations, and in Freudian terms, it would definitely be associated with the moralistic side of the psyche known as the Superego (versus the hedonistic urges of the Id, associated with Venus and Mars). So issues of cultural and social expectations overriding individual needs and desires can definitely come up during Saturn retrogrades.
Saturn transits and cycles can be considered cycles of achievement and maturity. When Saturn forms a hard aspect to a personal point in our chart, we might feel that everything is slowed down–we encounter delays, frustrations, and pressures. But these times also challenge us to face reality, thereby opening ourselves up to increased wisdom and the freedom that comes with living in truth.
Significant decisions are often made during Saturn’s hard transits to our personal planets. These transits slow life down (or at least, that is how we perceive it) and force us to live our lives in the present. Although Saturn transits can make life feel like a drudgery (these are often times when our lives seem to move at a snail’s pace and advancements are hard to see), they also give us the opportunity to gain inner strength, to become more responsible for what we do and say, and to cut out waste or excesses in our lives. Basically, what happens is a form of paring or slimming down in the area of life affected by Saturn. We are getting rid of things in our lives that are not working for us in the real world, and focusing on improving and strengthening the things that do serve a useful purpose.
With Saturn in Aquarius, Saturn is dignified and functioning well. This is a time for turning a critical eye to our dreams, goals, hopes, contributions, social structures, social lives, friendships, and community involvement.
Saturn demands simplicity, definition, realism, and truth wherever it touches our charts. Saturn also tests, not for the fun of it but for our own sakes. Saturn will reveal weak areas that need strengthening.
Saturn takes its time, and this is a good thing. With Saturn, we can only get to a healthy, balanced place if we take our time doing so, thoroughly.
With Saturn, a desire to gain control is present, and some of us might attempt to control the people in our lives, but this is a difficult and frustrating path to take. Eventually and ideally, we understand that it is only ourselves who we can control. With Saturn in Aquarius, we also recognize that as we are more responsible for ourselves, we impact and improve the community or collective.
It can certainly be a time when we are more cautious and careful in our social lives. New ways of approaching others can figure strongly during this period. We’re doing things differently because of our new perspective on friendship, community, and socializing. As we look at these things more critically, different methods/approaches naturally emerge.
It’s a great time for technological advances that improve the community, that bring more structure to our lives, and that help us connect more effectively. Even so, there can be more rules and structures imposed upon technology that may feel overly done or restrictive.
We are no longer satisfied with plans, goals, or dreams that don’t hold weight or that aren’t realistic and doable. Our strong sense of both the past and future can lead to powerful decisions and inventions or improvements. Ideally, we’re able to put our egos aside to do what’s best for the collective.
Saturn in its own sign doesn’t look to other influences for approval. It’s the final dispositor and thus has the last word.
This position is sometimes associated with constriction related to the legs, spine, or ankles.
While with Saturn in Capricorn there was a fear of scarcity, having nothing, or losing everything that were powerful motivators, with Saturn in Aquarius, our focus turns to our connection to something larger, to systems, and to individuals. The power of group movements is likely to rise. While Saturn in Capricorn was about self-preservation in many ways, Saturn in Aquarius is more focused on preserving the group.
