A tsunami warning has been issued for the west coast of America after a magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska.

The quake hit 157 miles south east of Kodiak at about 9.30am GMT on Tuesday (12.30am local time).

It was at a depth of 6.2 miles (10km), the US Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake prompted a tsunami warning for parts of Alaska and Canada as well as a tsunami watch for the entire US west coast.

I love 9 blocks from the beach in Santa Monica... and see tsunami warning signs all of the time. I am glad to see the warning has been canceled for California.

That was one huge earthquake.

Read that volcanos in Japan and Philippines erupted.

Looks like the Ring of Fire is active today.

California can't catch a break with these disasters. Wildfires, mudslides, earthquakes, the Lakers.

But in all seriousness, glad it got cancelled. Way too much going on out there for this to come to fruition. I want to move that way, but the natural disasters and housing costs got me thinking against it.
