First off, I know this is gonna divide opinion and that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. One thing we can all agree on is that we love Jordan shoes. Maybe that's why you might think what I have done is sacrilege! Anyway, I was fortunate enough to get my favourite Jordan shoe. Ever since I was a child I wanted the Jordan 6 Infrared but I could never afford them. Now that I am an adult I finally decided to bring closure to the trauma by getting a pair (albeit the DMP gold ones) I love the shoe but the gold band across the upper heal of the shoe was just too bling for me. I decided to use a permanent black marker to make it less flashy at the rear. Please See photos of before and after below. I'm not finished colouring it in yet. My eyesight sucks (old age) and I need to get one of my friends (blessed with good eyesight) to finish it. For what it's worth, I love it in black and I feel way less self conscious about wearing them now. What are your thoughts on self-customization on a shoe? Is this type of mutilation acceptable ?

It's your shoe fam do what you want with them.

As long as you like them we are gonna be happy for you.

Back in 2010 when I could get varsity red 6s for the cheap I actually turned a pair into the infrareds before the official infrared pack dropped. I loved them so much.

Thanks for the encouragement. Wow my eyes probably couldn't tell the difference between Varsity Red and Infrareds. What did you do to change them and was it effective ? I spoke to a craft friend before I defaced my own pair and she recommended a specific permanent black pen and to my disbelief it worked really well.

There was a very popular paint pen that was trending around the time of the varsity red 6 release. Multiple people on this very site used that method to improve our varsity red 6s.

Ironically many years later people began to prefer the varsity reds and I know quite a few people now who would be happy to see those retro over the infrareds.

very Interesting. What is it about the Jordan 6 shoe design that captivates you so much ? It is hard to put into words. I suppose for me I can compare it to a kick-*** piece of artwork on a wall that instantly hits home and I connect with. For me, it also has that connection with my childhood. I'm old enough to remember days before the web. Long, happy summer days outdoors hanging around a basketball court.

People aren't gonna wanna admit this but I'm from Kanye era.

I always liked the 6 but some of my favorite Kanye related fashion moments happened in this shoe. I developed my sense of style around that era so the 6 will always mean a lot to me.

The 6 Black Infrared was the start of my love for the Air Jordan. Obsessed over those. MJ posters in dads garage helped the influence. Honestly though it was the Reebok pump that got me into shoes as a 9 year old the year before. The thought of controlling the air in your shoe with a pump in the tongue was mind blowing then. lol
My top two shoes all time are the Charcoal 7 then Black Infra 6. The 7 was my first as a 12 year old kid and they were god like shoes at that time. Understand I was pretty much the off brand kid up to that point. I never thought I would ever have an Air Jordan. The Charcoal just appeared perfect to me. The Black red combo was close to the 6 in my mind but better to me. I could go on and on here. lol. They fit perfectly, and was on cloud nine that whole year. My first pair was the leather version but I still wanted a durabuck pair true adult version. I beat those to pieces literally. In 1996, while searching for a playoff 11, (long story) I came across a Charcoal brand new. I still have them, they are in my avy. That shoe store is still there as well. It just stuck to bieng my favorite shoe of them all.
