dont know if this thread is dead like the other regionals but i had a few questions about white house tours-

how do they work-
anybody know any names of agencies to go thru- i knwo the white house sets them up for groups of 10 but i'm sure there are companies -
anything else to do around it
best hotels around it

my 7 year old sister decided that she'd rather go to the white house and see obama than go to Disney

i know seeing obama is likely not gonna happen but a white house tour would be cool - maybe catch up with O at a speech or something

I dont think anyone else can answer this better for you on the site...

If you dont know anybody who works for the current administration, you have to go through your Congressman in order to request a White House tour. This processunder Bush wasnt AS long, it may be a 6 month waiting period. Now, with Obama it could be well over that period of time because of how popular he is and howmany people now have a sudden interest in going into the White House. Also, it all depends on who your Congressman is and what there policy is on that kind ofstuff.

Also, just an FYI, as of right now, the White House isnt even doing tours unless they are done by staffers.

No there are no companies that set up tours, the White House is an office, it houses 100 staffers who are busy at work, its not just somewhere that you walk inand out of or something that is owned by some tourist company, its the White House, not the Empire State Building.

No, you wont see the President, actually, let me reiterate, there is ZERO chance that you even are in the White House at the same time he is there and there isa even smaller chance of you even catching a glimpse of the President unless you happen to be on Pennsylvania Ave when his motorcade goes by.

Honestly, the tour you would be given would be of the following:

Press House
Lower Hall way of West Wing
White House Mess (Cafeteria/Dining Room For staffers)

and that is it, the tour literally lasts about 10 minutes. Also, the White House is tiny and crowded, low ceiling, narrow stairwells and they dont give outOval Office Tours/West Wing tours unless you are escorted by a Senior Level staffer, Also, you wont be able to see the better parts of the White House such asthe Red/Blue/Green Room, which in all honesty are the best parts of the White House.

Anything else to do around DC? Not sure what kind of question that is...

What up Tre and welcome to our Region.. Our Region is hardly dead.. its actually one of the most Active on NT.. probably more so than the Jordan Forum.. butVari would be correct.

Its a process my man.

Good Luck with that...

Varisox when was the last you went to the White House. When I went (about 5-6 years ago) I saw all the colored rooms in there.

I was there really the last time anyone with my political affilitation could have gone, which was middle of January.

Varisox - thanks for the info even though your post read kinda condescending

1) i read the whole congressman tour with 10 min thing on the actual website but figured touring companies set them up to get the numbers needed
2) i know they arent letting us into anywhere important - but some of the tour sites mentioned "visitor center" tours and remakes of the actualoffices around town
3) i damn sure know they aint letting us around O-

4) again this is for my 7 yr old sister so even getting to the gates and taking a pic would suffice for now -

so i'll ask this way instead - anyone know of good KID friendly bus/trolley tours of the area around the white house

thanks in advance

Hey Tre.. I will ask my friend who is a big DC Tourist advocate. They do have lots of Trolley Tours that take you thru DC showing all the sites and Museums....I believe you can actually take some of them like Taxi's when you get there.. but I'll check.

Don;t mind Vari... he's the Forum's High Society Bougie House Negra...lol

If some of us didnt know better we'd think he was ex CIA, Swat, House of Hoops, Georgetowns Finest, Congressman of Provincial DC lolololol Hes a lil on theHolier than thou Nose up types.. but he adds to the Forums Various Characters as it were... lol
