LOS ANGELES (Feb. 13) - When Aretha Franklin is unhappy, she does not mince words.

On Tuesday, the longtime Queen of Soul slammed Beyonce Knowles' intro to Tina Turner at Sunday's Grammy Awards, in which Knowles called Turner, not Franklin, "the queen."

"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce," Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."

E-mails to Knowles' publicist Yvette Noel-Schure and calls and e-mails to Recording Academy spokeswomen Jaime Sarachit and Barb Deghan were not immediately returned.

In the first few seconds of Knowles' intro to Turner's performance, she name-dropped Franklin and a long list of famed female singers. Then the "Crazy in Love" chanteuse focused on Turner.

"There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent," said Knowles, strutting in hot pants. "Ladies and gentlemen. Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen."

At a party later that night, Knowles called Turner her "ultimate icon."

Still, Franklin ended her brief criticism on a gracious note, thanking the Grammys and the voting academy and saying, "love to Beyonce anyway."

Known for such hits as "Respect" and "Chain of Fools," Franklin tied with the Clark Sisters for best gospel performance trophy for her duet "Never Gonna Break My Faith" with Mary J. Blige.
Is it really that serious?

I didn't watch the Grammy's so I didn't see this when it happened....

Could you even tell Aretha was upset?

wow. how she gonna get r-e-s-p-e-c-t with her ego gettin butthurt like that...

I don't CARE if Aretha is a legend... you don't deserve any R-E-S-P-E-C-T coming out the houselookin like that. Lard $%# needs to respect her damnself. Sittin there sweating packs of butter. Those straps must be made from the same wire the acrobats at the circus use when they do the tightrope walking. Ibet her breath smells like cholesterol.

chill out with all the disrespect to the legend tho my dude up there. its black history month, theres no need to even post pics like that up there at all.

^And who are YOU?

N's know I be clownin
laugh.gif
... get outta here. !@#+ does black history month gotta do wit anything?

^That's not a good look for Aretha up there lol. I wouldn't be surprised if she tried to eat that sphaghetti strap

But anyways this beef is dumb,it's obvious who Beyonce idolizes and takes after so why wouldn't she consider Tina the Queen, hell she's like Tina 2.0 and thensome.

^No disrespect DMV but what does that pic have to do with black history month also? Nothing at all fam!
Also, Aretha isnt even disrespecting Beyonce like alot of people claim. Stuff is definitely blown out of propotion and some of us (if not all) decide tobelieve it most of the time.

"Still, Franklin ended her brief criticism on a gracious note, thanking the Grammys and the voting academy and saying, "love to Beyonce anyway."

Theres no beef lol.

I think you read it wrong homie lol. Dude above me said I was being disrespectful to post that picture because it's Black History Month. And I said.. what the $!!% does that have to do with anything?

But anyway... Aretha is known to be unclassy anyway. I love her music, but her attitude is the WORST. She was mad because when Beyonce shouted out her namein the intro, she didn't say "Aretha, the Queen" and instead, she referred to Tina Turner as The Queen. Petty nonsense. I'm sure Bdoesn't even care

On some SIRIUS radio show after The Grammy's,
they were talking about how Aretha's trainer was mad that she had been cheating on her diet...

Now, I'm not gonna say anything myself...
but as you probably guessed, they started crackin jokes about that afterwards...

.

Aretha shouldn't take it so personal, I'm sure Beyonce meant nothing by it. They should all consider themselves "Queens" anyway.

Ehh, Beyonce can probably identify with Turner more. Catered to the white audience, more of a "rock star" than a soulstress.
