aptly described it as "too angsty" to relate to. A 30 year old black man may have some things to relate to a white teenager, but those are few and far between. And majority of her songs are full of that teenage angst I can only think back to; fondly because those days are over.
Late, but usually if an artist's past work is s completely different style compared to their current work, they've probably sold out in some way. That's not inherently bad, because sometimes the artist wants to be better appreciated so they turn to a more widely accepted genre. Others may change it up for money, which happens all of the time. I appreciate those that stick with their sound throughout their career, but at the same time it would be hard to completely decline making more money at the cost of changing your sound slightly(or substantially) because at the end of the day, you live for yourself and others you care for. In her case, what stood out to me is that out of nowhere, she was on a bunch of talk shows left and right. So, she either has an excellent team/manager out of the gate to give her guidance to the industry or the media jumped on an opportunity to interview a rapidly growing artist.
