Blake Griffin(notes)has capped off an amazing season with an NBA Rookie of the Year awardfor the 2010-11 season. The award is hardly a surprise, as Griffin tookthe NBA by storm in his first full season. The 2010-11 season wastechnically Griffin's second year, but he missed the entire previousseason with a knee injury after being drafted No.1 overall out of theUniversity of Oklahoma in 2009.
Thestatistics for Blake Griffin were incredibly good for any player, particularly a rookie. Griffin played all 82 games and he averaged 22.5points, 12.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. Griffin also recorded anamazing 63 double-doubles, and it was almost big news when Blake didn'trecord a double-double on a given night.

Blake Griffin brought a lot of excitement to a Los Angeles Clippers franchise that has struggled to be relevant for many years. If teammate Eric Gordon(notes)had stayed healthy throughout the season, the Clippers might have evenbeen a playoff contender. The future looks good for the Clippers withGriffin leading a talented young nucleus that includes Gordon and pointguard Mo Williams(notes).

Griffin was the first rookie to make the NBA All-Star game in eightyears. He was not a major factor in the game itself, but he did win theDunk Contest in front of the home crowd by jumping over a car anddunking a ball that tossed through the sunroof by teammate Baron Davis(notes).

The nightly NBA highlight reel often included a thunderous dunk fromBlake, but what really impressed people was his poise and drive.Griffin never really seemed to get phased by anything and he continuedto work hard throughout the entire game, even when the Clippers weredown. Assuming he can stay healthy, Blake Griffin has a very brightfuture ahead of him. Griffin was extremely fun to watch all throughoutthe season and this award is well deserved.

Do they have a voting list breakdown? I'd like to see how many votes Landry Fields got.
