The grand jury could have voted to indict Guyger for manslaughter, the count she was initially arrested on, or another charge, or they could have decided she should face no charges at all.
Because grand jury proceedings are secret, it is unknown exactly what evidence prosecutors presented to the jurors. But attorneys for the Jean family said both Allison Jean, Botham's mother, and his sister Allisa Charles-Findley testified.
Grand jurors heard evidence in the case Monday and Wednesday, leaving that night without voting on whether to indict Guyger. They returned Friday and voted.
Court records show the indictment was a "grand jury referral," indicating that prosecutors sought a murder count instead of the manslaughter charge for which Guyger was arrested by Texas Rangers.
Changes everything. “College student” vs “potential rapist” is a huge difference. It’s put in there to sway an opinionKind of crazy how powerful labels can be, as a side note.
'Fired Officer' as a birdcall for the 'thin blue line' supporters vs. 'Murderer' which is what she is.
Legally the news cant call her a murderer until shes convicted. If she gets off, that station would be liable.“Fired officer” how about call her a murderer and spare the other labels
Yeah true. How about potential killer? Drunk shooter?mLegally the news cant call her a murderer until shes convicted. If she gets off, that station would be liable.

She’ll be cleaning the highway for 40 hours.I hate to say it but the way the Texas Penal code is written, she will get off light.
A judge on Monday set the trial date in the homicide case of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger.
Guyger, 30, fatally shot 26-year-old Botham Jean on Sept. 6 after she says she entered the wrong apartment and mistook Jean for an intruder, police have said. Jean was in his own apartment preparing to watch a football game when he was shot.
Judge Tammy Kemp set the trial date for Aug. 12. However, Guyger’s attorneys are expected to request a change of venue, so the trial date will likely change.
Guyger was indicted on a murder charge.
