Cain's 9-9-9 plan would be put in place as a transitory plan eventually replaced by the FairTax.

This is ridiculous, adding 9% more to the state taxes we already have?

17% Tax

On the face of it, I like the plan and its simplicity.  Mainly because it promotes savings over consumption.  We not only tax wages, but we also tax any gains made on interest from savings and capital gains from investments.  If your main source of income is based on capital gains then that's one things.  But if you're a typical investor who puts their money into the market to invest for a new home or car, then why should you pay 7% of your income towards taxes, and another 15% on the capital gains from that same income?

The only real problem I have with his plan is that I haven't heard it clearly articulated yet how the entitlement programs would be funded through this plan.

I also know that this tax plan will never get through congress because too many people are getting breaks through various loopholes so anyone who actually favors this plan will not receive campaign contributions from those special interests who would be left out.  Plus... accountants and attorneys will be put out of business since they thrive on the complexity of the current tax system.

the whole republican/democrat illusion is laughable at this point...... Democracy is a farce. what we have is capalist imperalism/ fascism which does not benefit the working class. A communist/socalist revolution must take place in this country for real change... capitalism cannot be reform because it's focus or main idea is PROFIT by any menas neccessary...

yes there are jobs paying good money out there but how many people are fighting toobtain those jobs? why has the manual labour sector been hit the hardest when they produce the most?

some trader on wall st doesnt produce anything of value in the real world. those artifical numbers a game. and the game is rigged.

CAPITALISM IS THE PROBLEM AND NEITHER A DEMOCRAT OR A REPUBLICAN CANNOT FIX WHAT THEY FIND TO BE PERFECT. EACH PRESIDENT HAS PRAISED THE SYSTEM OF CAPITALISM SINCE REAGON ... CAPITALISM IS A SOCIAL AND ECONMICAL PROBLEM AND IT HAS TO BE ABOLISHED... NOT REFORMED...

You have to remember that Obama has been president since 2000, so all of America's current problems can
be directly attributed to him.

I didn't see socialism doing a whole lot better.  Greece, Spain and Italy were among the most socialist in the EU and they are all in dire trouble.  The reason America hit the skids is because we have been gradually going socialist since the New Deal.

Like it or not, everyone is out to maximize their profit.  Hence why both people and corporations are looking to make the most money in the most efficient manner possible.  There's nothing stopping any of us from gaining new skills and putting them to work for ourselves.

47% of households don't pay a Federal Income Tax. That means we're almost half way there.

Herman Cain + Koch Bros. +  Stephen Moore = LOL

Koch Bros. are so evil, I swear.

That stat about income taxes shows how we are a nation of a few rich and a whole lot of poor that are paid so little that they don't get hit with income taxes and the Federal government is subsidizing the low wages with tax rebates.

Don't know enough about 9-9-9 and I don't think it ha been fledged out enough to calculate who would pay what yet but I am in favor of eliminating the IRS and going to a consumption based tax with appropriate carve-outs/refunds for lower class

Their pay isn't low, the money they earn is devalued. Big difference.

The 47% who don't pay federal taxes is VERY misleading.... Yes they don't pay federal taxes, but that is because the tax doesn't start at 0 dollars for a reason because it would effectively put those people making under the minimum level for federal taxes out on the street...

But it is a lie to say that that 47% do not pay taxes... They pay the payroll tax.. They pay the gas tax (if they are blessed enough to own 1 vehicle).. With the small income they have if they live on their own they are renting meaning they are likely to be paying the property tax of the landlord.. Sales tax... As well in most states they will not be immune from many state and local taxes

And with Herman Cain's  Count from Sesame Street plan  they'd be even less fortunate than they are now

word...he admitted this double sales tax in the debate
ridiculous

Yes but you are eliminating other taxes in the process. This is not a 9% sales tax on top of everything that is already in place.

And I dont think the 47% is misleading at all. They pay NO federal income tax, sure they may pay taxes for goods or medicare, ss or gas tax but they DO NOT pay Federal income tax. Should they pay less should we issue cards or monthly payments to those in the bottom 47% to offset them having to pay for gas or goods so they can contribute absolutely nothing and use the roads, trains, police, fire etc all on someone elses dime?
