Engineering and Sports Job Positions?

Hey guys, so I love sports and I am thinking about being an engineer. Are there any possible jobs in the future to combine these two?
What major would I have to choose? Possibly building Spalding products or NBA backboards, things like this?

I worked in NIKE Research and Development.  If I remember correctly, the footwear designers and developers studied industrial design in college and chose a concentration (or specialty area) while developing their portfolios.  I would start looking into internships at local businesses as soon as possible.
