If you Google pics of "Gyro" you will see some with Lettuce and some without. I wouldn't call it a KEY ingredient. (Also based on real life observation)

But I would step aside to those in this thread that are closer to that culture.

I’m not a gyro expert but I’ve never had lettuce on a gyro
Gyro with everything is usually onions, sauce and tomatoes
Personally I think lettuce would take up too much space leaving less room for more meat

I’ve had a mixed meat gyro once a week and fries from this place called Spitz in Los Feliz for a while now. For real some of the best fries I’ve ever had in my life.
