I think this thought process is part of the problem. Our alternatives are whatever we chose to make it. Boxing ourselves in and thinking the only other options are other giant companies that don’t have our interests at heart is going to send us down the same road years from now.

If we take our earning power and support some of these small brands, they can be as big if not bigger than interchangeable J Crew and Zara.

So if it’s the size of the company that disqualifies those black owned brands as alternatives, I think that’s a weak reason. At some point, we’re going to have to start thinking outside of the box they’ve fashioned for us. With the internet, I can find 10 black owned brands with quality and designs equal or better than HM in 20 seconds.

Can these black owned brands be listed?
I've found a nice amount of black owned brands, but none of them actually make stuff i can walk into work in. Most of these black clothing websites that pop up have the "I'm black yall I'm black yall I'm blackity black, I'm black yall" ish posted on them in big giant letters. I mean I love being black, but I don't want to wear clothing that has that printed on it.

That's not what I meant, I'm talking about literal alternatives.

From the few sites I checked out those brands are selling t's for $30-$40 and hoodies for $60+ (Crenshaw selling there's for $100). None of those brands carry things like OCBDs or pants.

I'm not saying that the designs are bad, but there's obviously a different target audience. I love some of the stuff he posted, but I'd be wondering if it'd be ok for me to wear them

H&M Closes All Its Stores in South Africa After Protests

(CNN Money) — H&M stores across South Africa were shuttered Saturday. Local media reported that destructive protesters had swarmed several locations.

The protesters were reacting to an ad in which a black child wore a sweatshirt that bore the slogan “coolest monkey in the jungle.” It appeared on the British version of the Swedish retailer’s online store.

Some social media users shared footage claiming to show demonstrators throwing racks of clothing to the ground. Images show merchandise in tangled heaps and toppled security sensors.

H&M said in a statement that it’s “aware of the recent events inside several of our South African stores,” and it has “temporarily” closed all stores in the country. According to the company’s website, H&M has 17 locations in South Africa.

“None of our staff or customers have been injured,” H&M said. “We continue to monitor the situation closely and will open the stores as soon as the situation is safe again.”

The ad, which has been deleted, met backlash earlier in the week when it was shared on social media. Two musicians, known as The Weeknd and G-Eazy, cut business ties with H&M in response. H&M issued a statement Monday: “[W]e apologize to anyone this may have offended.”

On Tuesday, the company said it would also “investigate why this happened to prevent this type of mistake from happening again.”

“We strongly believe that racism and bias in any shape or form, deliberate or accidental, are simply unacceptable,” the statement reads. “We stress that our wonderful store staff had nothing to do with our poorly judged product and image.”

The Economic Freedom Fighters, an opposition party, retweeted footage of protesters marching and singing in H&M stores.

The group’s leader, Julius Sello Malema, also shared images of the destruction and comments accusing H&Mof racism.

On Twitter Saturday morning, Malema wrote: “We will never be told by any fool on how to fight against our oppression particularly those who have never been at the picket lines. There’s no formula on how you should fight the oppressor, expect more action against all racists, individually and collectively this year.”

Where can I buy some shoes where I can glue of the sole of the shoe and call them mine? The design was done by a white company, the product is bought from china and the co-founder/owner is white. Maybe, I expected a little more... especially if there is a claim of African made? The cost of one hundred isn't the problem. I just did a little research on the company to see what I'd find. The world knows black people are emotional and will jump on almost anything without thinking...who does our money finance? I'm simply more aware how every single dollar in my household is spent. No, I can't avoid every issue but those I can, I will.
