I used to lurk for the longest because I didn't know that I couldve joined..
they had this thing where they only accept at a certain time of the month...every time i would be down to reply to something, it wasnt time/or near the time to sign up so i just let it go. happened like 20 times before i gave in and just signed up and waited lol

When Nelson C created NikeTalk way back in 1999, I don't think we honestly knew what we were really signing up for. We just knew that our new friends, and the budding online community of sneaker fans as a whole, deserved better.
We deserved better than impostors. We deserved better than trolling. We deserved better than White Supremacist hate speech. We deserved better than disrespect. We deserved a home.
At the time, many people complained about the situation. They complained about the crude technology of the sneaker message boards online at the time. They complained about the lack of effort and moderation. Many conversations took place about what should have been, or could have been.
@Nelson C acted. He lit a candle while others cursed the darkness. We've walked a long road, but in the best company. Whatever setbacks and obstacles we've faced, we've faced them together and we've proven time and time again that we're stronger together as a community any of us could be individually.
NikeTalk has been open for 6,210 days now, and I'm pretty sure I've been here for every single one. I couldn't begin to describe or calculate the amount of time or energy that have gone into this community.
Over the course of all that we've been through together, what was started in friendship has since become family.
Many of us have truly grown up here together. I was still a teenager when NikeTalk began, now NikeTalk is in its late teens. NikeTalk outlasted ezboard and Yuku. We endured as the companies who've hosted our forums have changed no fewer than six times. So much has come and gone. We're still here because we've stood together.
Thanks, of course, to our community's founder, @Nelson C, all of our amazing volunteers (except for those three...), and all of you for making this possible. Last Friday, I sent out a check to Room to Read to sponsor two more libraries. With that contribution, our community has now raised over $400,000 for charity. I am, and will forever be, inexpressibly grateful for that opportunity.
It's been quite a run so far. Despite all the challenges we've faced, we've now completed 17 laps around the sun together.
Here's to another rotation.

Happy birthday Niketalk. Been a long time lurker and don't really post much. But this site has been my go to for release dates, world news, and the Lulz. Couldn't have gone through my young adult years without this site. Now being a family man, I still visit from time to time but not as frequently as I used to.
