the two are separate situations, Jordan had won three rings. his reasons can be for whatever he wants due to the combo of on court excellence and WINNING. Three rings in 10 years is a damn good career for anyone.Originally Posted by Nako XL

did you think Jordan was the greatest in '94?
Jordan was one player on a team with 5 starters and 12 players total on the roster. Barry was one player on a team with 22 starters and 53 guys on the team. Get the @%++ outta here with that comparison.Originally Posted by assyrianplaya

Barry admittedly quit because of the losing, therefore he quit on his team.

Put the football equivalent of Michael Jordan on a team with no offensive line, a bad quarterback and a bad defense and that player won't be able to do a damn thing about it. It's not like Barry could will them to victory every game and play hero ball like Jordan and Kobe did when their teams sucked; he runs for an 80 yard touchdown and then has to go sit on the sidelines while his defense gets gashed for another score; or his QB throws an awful pick, or his line gives him nowhere to run. COMPLETELY different situations. Since you're a Bears fan, you think Walter won a SB because he was just that good? Hell no, it was one of the best defenses ever and one of the best overall teams period. Barry never had anything close to that.
Yea we all wish he would have played a few more years but I can't hate on him for leaving while he was still healthy after a ten year career. Especially at a position which usually has a relatively short shelf life, I can understand why a guy would rather hang it up before his body breaks down on him than hang on for several more years and risk his post-career quality of life for a team that's not going anywhere. Even with good players like Barry, Moore, Morton, and Perriman there the Lions won one playoff game while he was there and that was the only one in over a half century. Detroit had just drafted Charlie Batch to start over at QB and cut a crucial OL for salary cap reasons. Also it was well known that the Lions would not have accommodated a trade request. Can you blame him for feeling like he was in a hopeless situation? And have the Lions done a single thing since he retired that would have made them relevant while he was still there? Not even close. Would it have been worth it if he played three more years for 5-11 or 7-9 teams and got a debilitating injury?
Looks at avy.Originally Posted by assyrianplaya
