I've been telling people this stuff for so long and the ignorance baffles me.
Who doesn't want to live in North Korea and Cuba!
Those are dictatorships. Not prime examples of socialism.

The word socialism has been through so many changes just like the religions most people on here are always going crazy about. The misuse associated with the word and the misinterpretations by the public make a lot of the very important but very rarely talked about topics like Socialism taboo.

I believe that if one form of government isn't working, which ours clearly doesn't, then we should change to something that is either the opposite or completely different that what we are using. If it is Socialism then so be it, it's the topic here because that's what the billboard is eluding to. However, if there was another form of government that fit my needs I would give it the same amount of attention I am currently giving Socialism. I have been reading about this way of life for a while now and what I have come away with so far is that all forms of government are flawed in some way and we just need to learn from the past and build a better future. Check out my blog for further explanations of what I am saying now and I will be updating it within the next few days as well.

There are a number of advantages to the Socialist system. Although, like Capitalism, it isn't perfect, I feel like the correct mix between the two could in fact be the solution that a country like ours would need.

In countries that have more Socialist systems, social mobility is significantly more possible. Income inequality is also much less drastic, where as in the United States it is a serious issue. The income inequality here explains a great deal of issues that many people who aren't privileged have. It isn't that some people are lazy, it's just that they have a sense of hopelessness because of the extreme gap between the rich and the poor in this country. It seems as if something of a caste system is coming into formation in this country, with a great number of peoples income being defined by their parents income. We should be doing better than our parents, not being defined by what they made. The percentage of people who fall into this category shot up drastically in the 90's and 2000's.

Also, we as Americans spend the most per person on health care, yet our life expectancy is barely better than Ireland, Denmark and Portugal. Countries that have some type of state run health insurance that covers the majority of it's citizens such as France, Norway and Japan live longer, healthier lives.

I could go on. And yes, I do classify myself as a somewhat of a Socialist.
