How do the following salaries stack up in your area?

Live in the south bay area by all the tech giants..

$40k per year - na

$50k per year - na

$65k per year - na

$80k per year - na

If anything you can def make it with any of those salaries above...pray you live with your parents and have no student loan debt. Most folk that move out here for work live in Oakland or room it with other people in SF. I make north of 150k and am lucky to have been raised in Vallejo so I've got family close and was able to grad with no debt. Depending on where you work too in the south bay you dont have to pay or worry about breakfast/lunch/dinner as its all free. Along with strong 401k 1:1 matching and other incentives you can live great if you're smart.

Still i wouldnt buy a house nor do i think it's in my immediate future. Bay Area market is just insane

Vegas is another place with low key cost of living...ppl think bout spending all that money on the strip but outside of that its pretty cheap compared to other cities ...don’t know about the jobs tho

Depends what you do. I’ll probably be moving there eventually.

Houses are cheap and no state tax so you save a little there.

I’d make less but not that much less... due to the demand for construction.

Some jobs pay more some are less there. I do think it’s easier for people to make a living there that aren’t office people. I know another dude who moved there from mn to deal poker. Now he deals poker for a casino there and World Series of poker as well. Random come up.

Los Angeles, CA

Just on my personal experiences. Single, no kids.
We talking gross pay or net.? ( I make a little over 60k gross which nets around 46k)
Own(no roommates) 1br apartment. $1900
Basic car payment/lease. Sub $600 including insurance .
Utilities (gas,cell,internet,lights,water etc.) $600
Food ( I don't cook) $600

Do the math, this leaves me with very little to play with. I usually save a couple hundred a month so I basically live paycheck to paycheck on these expenses.

Don't get me wrong, I would def consider this a "comfortable" living, as for most people I know, they're either still living at home or with roommates.
Nothing like living on your own. But to the other posters who have mentioned buying/owning a home on this salary in SoCal.? WTF.?! How.????

Sure I can cut cost. Buy a beater whip and not have a car payment. Cut down significantly on food cost by not eating out all day. Get a studio apartment instead of 1bed. ****, but even then, no way in hell you affording a mortgage payment out here when even the fixer uppers are demanding 1/2 million.

@waitwut will tell you

$40k per year - living at home or multiple roommates. Just barely getting by
$50k per year - same as above
$65k per year - 1 bedroom apartment - just getting by
$80k per year - 1 -2 bedroom apartment - living okay

NYC

NYC housing is ridiculous. Tried to find a place in Brooklyn but I refuse to pay 2400 in rent not including utilities and bills.

Household income is about 120k+, living in SI. I will say I’m living pretty good for now.
As minimum wage increases, I wish my salary did as well

In Maricopa County AZ you cannot comfortably support a family unless you making $65K+

I mean people do it. But they’re scraping by.

Ideally you want that $80K+

If you’re single however you can live like a king off $40K

You can have someone making 50K a year and live a lavish lifestyle than a person who makes 100K+

It’s all about being debt free and money management.

This is the right answer.

But aside from this,
40k- you want more
50k- can live comfortable in a decent spot + whip
65k- can live comfortable in a decent downtown spot + whip
80k- nice house in midtown + whip
100k+-nice house out east or nice condo downtown. Or both and season tickets to the Grizzlies.

Yea gotta go there for construction related or casino work...I doubt it would be too much outside of that, but i'm in higher ed so I should be good at UNLV if I ever decide to move out west and the bread right

You can find spots in Santa Ana, more inland but it’s doable.

#1 reason for never leaving Cali

I don’t even think so any longer man. Santa Ana is becoming so gentrified, my buddy is making 100K and can’t afford much else in OC, he’s buying there.

purchased 3 years ago for 440k, took out a home equity loan last year and they valued at 550k. Single, with no kids, salary ranges from 140-185k last 3 years

Yeah downtown is def poppin now.

Lots of bars/concert venues. Lots of places to dine. Museums, shopping etc.

Baddies everywhere. Between ASU’s downtown campus and the chicks who work downtown and the chicks visiting on business and staying at the local hotels there’s no shortage.

Live in San Antonio.

40k - 1 bedroom apartment for around 700-900; property might be old at the 700 range but a new "luxury" apartment can be found for 900

50k - live pretty much wherever you want, including downtown

65k - same as 50k but you can also afford a nice house in the suburbs or right outside of downtown

80k+ - living like a king. can afford a house in the suburbs, downtown, art district, etc. can live wherever the hell you want basically especially if you don't have kids

The bad thing about living here is that companies low ball on salary offers since the COL is so low. I could be making around 125k if I moved to Austin.

Company reached out to my boy here in DC - told him option of living here or Orlando. Told him the Orlando salary was 110 while DC was 150 lmao.
