Is the Sneaker game dying?

i know general doesnt really care about sneakers but shoes are what drew us all to this community

lately i noticed a lot of sneaker youtubers are selling off their collection and it seems weird that they are all selling at the same time, i thought the shoe game would die years ago tbh but its only gotten bigger with bots and all that just seems strange for all these people to be getting rid of their collection

either way, i think its changed mainly cause of options and collaborations.

runners have gotten increasingly popular with nike's flyknits and adidas UBs. it's not just basketball shoes

you see the rise of designers/companies collaborating with people at asics/new balance and kanye with adidas/nike

its not just jordans anymore.

I wouldn't say dying.

More like the fakes are starting to disappear. Plus nike kinda got cocky with the price raising, hence why most of the shoes are still sitting in most spots.

I don't think it's dying it's just become more specific. Seems like people are more hypebeasty than ever now so only a certain few sneakers become the "hot" buy versus say even a decade ago when there were the go to must haves but people still collected and purchased a wide variety of sneakers. Also what was mentioned about Nike getting more flagrant than ever with pricing, but Nike ain't the only one seems since collabs have become common place now every company thinks they can just inflate their prices. I'm not paying Gucci prices for Nikes never have never will.

Agreed, I kind of feel the hypebeast trend is at it's all time worse. Supreme/bape seems like its more commonly associated with the non sneaker enthusiast today and part of a weird dirty/hipster/hypebeast crowd.

I don't think the sneaker thing is dying out but the pretend sneaker heads are moving on to the next "cool" thing and occasionally still cop what's hype.

some of us have been buying the shoes we like since the 90s, kept buying whatever we liked in the 2000s, and still buy whatever we like now. doesn't have to be lines and raffles and ebay bonanzas for people who appreciate sneakers to continue to appreciate them.

It may only apply to me, but that term (along with "sneakerhead") got played out very quickly. It could also be because of the individuals who used these terms. Unless you're making a joke, It just seems corny IMO.

The reality is stuff is getting retro'd at a faster/higher rate than ever. 10 years ago we would get mostly OG colorways with maybe 5 new colorways. And often we would have to wait 5-10 years for a retro of a popular colorway. Now its maybe 3-5 years.

Now Nike is going crazy with the colors that we used to only see on fugazi sneakers at the swap meet. So with so many releases, only the desirable OG colorways or collabs get sold quick. The Royal 1s sold out in seconds online so sneaker culture is live and well. Nike is overplaying their hand though.
