First off, I know this is gonna divide opinion and that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. One thing we can all agree on is that we love Jordan shoes. Maybe that's why you might think what I have done is sacrilege! Anyway, I was fortunate enough to get my favourite Jordan shoe. Ever since I was a child I wanted the Jordan 6 Infrared but I could never afford them. Now that I am an adult I finally decided to bring closure to the trauma by getting a pair (albeit the DMP gold ones) I love the shoe but the gold band across the upper heal of the shoe was just too bling for me. I decided to use a permanent black marker to make it less flashy at the rear. Please See photos of before and after below. I'm not finished colouring it in yet. My eyesight sucks (old age) and I need to get one of my friends (blessed with good eyesight) to finish it. For what it's worth, I love it in black and I feel way less self conscious about wearing them now. What are your thoughts on self-customization on a shoe? Is this type of mutilation acceptable ?
As long as you like them we are gonna be happy for you.
Back in 2010 when I could get varsity red 6s for the cheap I actually turned a pair into the infrareds before the official infrared pack dropped. I loved them so much.

Thanks for the encouragement. Wow my eyes probably couldn't tell the difference between Varsity Red and Infrareds. What did you do to change them and was it effective ? I spoke to a craft friend before I defaced my own pair and she recommended a specific permanent black pen and to my disbelief it worked really well.
There was a very popular paint pen that was trending around the time of the varsity red 6 release. Multiple people on this very site used that method to improve our varsity red 6s.
Ironically many years later people began to prefer the varsity reds and I know quite a few people now who would be happy to see those retro over the infrareds.
