"
Competitive eaters, a new and increasingly celebrated breed of athlete, will gather at the Stockton Asparagus Festival in Stockton, CA onApril 26, for the World Deep-Fried Asparagus-Eating Championship. The competition will commence at Noon. on the Main Stage at the Weber Point Event Center.

The field of eaters will be highlighted by rookie sensation and reigning asparagus-eating champion Joey Chestnut of San Jose, who shocked the world in hisasparagus-eating debut last year by beating veteran Rich LeFevre. Chestnut recently challenged the great Takeru Kobayashi himself, leading the Japanese worldchampion during the first seven minutes of an eight-minute contest.

A host of talented local competitors -- including Stockton resident Gregory Carr, San Jose resident KhoaNguyen and Orange resident Gabe Zacuto -- will test their talents in the 10-minute, all-you-can-eat contest.

The event will feature deep-fried spears of Stockton asparagus. The winner will take home a cash prize of $1,500 and the beautiful champion's trophywhile second place will receive $500 and third place, $250.

"The Stockton Asparagus Festival is thrilled that the world's greatest eaters will return to our city," said Kate Lewis, executive director ofthe Stockton Asparagus Festival. "Eating contests, which can now be seen regularly on ESPN, are a fan favorite here at the festival.""

To be honest with you, it's changed a lot from 5-6 years ago. I've been going since the times they had it on 8 mile road and you could justwalk in without paying the $5-10 to get in. back then it really didn't have a big "festival" feel to it, they felt more like just a day at thepark. Now that it's at the waterfront/downtown there's a lot more stuff there, it really got a "festival" feel now. But like many thingsit's only as fun as you make it. It's been jamm packed for the past 2 years and I don't think this year is going to be any different. The mainthings I want to see is the eating contest hopefully they got kobayashi and joey chestnut there (nh). And just eat some good ol' overpriced festivalbarbeque.

Haha, theres really a post for this!?

Went, last year.. it was too damn hot. I'm sure as hell not going again.

is it similar to the bean festival in tracy? i might go but i aint tryna drive to stockton for some asparagus or watch the eating contest. plus the nfl draftis gonna be on.

aww man Joey "Jaws" Chestnut won, dude ate 8.8 pounds(world record), like a SAVAGE!!! and 2nd place went to dude named "Deep Dish" fromChicago, Illinois crowd was chanting JOEY! JOEY! JOEY! and USA!! USA!! USA!!

kobayashi pussied out with a supposed "jaw injury"

Saw Chestnut just walkin around as I was leaving, told him congratulations and shook his hand.

The females were on point.

Got some certificates for $200 worth of free slot play at Jackson Rancheria. Just lined up and spin a wheel, I kept getting in line every 20-30 minutes. Leastyou can win is $25, most you can win is $100 per "spin" So all you casino heads make sure you peap out the Jackson Rancheria tent if you show up forSunday.
