So what you're telling me is you believe that self-expression equals an attemp to gain attention?Originally Posted by DCAllAmerican

Yes it is that black and white in this situation.

to show, manifest, or reveal: to express one's anger.

I agree that "doing you" doesn't make sense in the traditional sense but what people forget to do is reflect and meditate at the end of the day.
Once you reflect and meditate then you can make precise decisions to define who you are or who you want to be. At the end of the day you can ask yourself "Do I like the person that I am?, what do I need to change?, Did I handle that situation correctly? what could I have done better? Once you do this enough times, the decision making will no longer be on the conscious but it will end up being on the subconscious and automatic.
That is defining who you are. At least to me.

Of course it is. Expression is an outward action for others to see.
You can't express yourself TO yourself can you? Of course not. You express yourself to the world.
So yes that is an easy question. Self expression is an attention seeking act.

How can a man express his sense of fashion to himself GrimLock?
You are taking my statement out of context. Stay on topic. Fashion. How can you express FASHION to yourself?

agreed on all accounts.

nice post. this is the type of $*@$ I think about when I'm
My thoughts are always that I could die any day, so what if I didn't live the way I really wanted to. I am always down to go to a game, show, vacation, event, etc, because those are the types of things I really enjoy. That's why I have a hard time saving money. What good is money when you're dead? I really would rather spend a rack in Vegas than buy a new TV.Originally Posted by GrimlocK

BUT theirs always the allure of the "shiny/expensive" club always calling your name in this era.
Word. Media really has brainwashed so many people. I've paid stupid amounts of money for kicks just like the rest of this board. Is there any way a pair of shoes should cost $300? No.Originally Posted by GrimlocK
I realize how much of an impact that magazines, t.v., music, billboards, posters and what have you really determine for us what we need to be changing for ourselves instead of us feeling what we WANT to do/change about ourselves.

See, i dont completely agree with this. Just me. I think confidence comes from deep within and it starts with Intent and then a desire to succeed [if you dont succeed at first, keep trying]. Yes once success is achieved at a certain level your level of confidence can boost up in other metrics..Originally Posted by DCAllAmerican
Confidence comes from success. You can't have natural confidence if you haven't tasted success one way or another. Because unless you succeed, you don't know if you have "it."
So confidence comes from wordly experience, so I wouldn't call that from within per-say.

Have you never looked in the mirror and said, "Damn, I look good?" It's really not that hard to understand that some people dress well for themselves.Originally Posted by DCAllAmerican
