Tracy McGrady has been working with Tim Grover and physical therapist David Reavy for weeks trying to get himself back into playing shape.

Reavy is so convinced of the progress that he suggested recently that the Rockets superstar could be ready to go by October 1 and back in the lineup when the season starts, a recovery plan that would have him healthy weeks in advance of the average patient. Reavy and company have been working on a plan to even McGrady's body out again.

"His whole body was imbalanced from basically his shoulder blades down to his feet," Reavy says. "He was developing a lot of back problems ... He was developing strength in an imbalanced fashion. And what I see in Tracy, in general, he had no core strength, he couldn't hold a plank."

So Reavy and Grover devised a rehab plan that would help bring it all back -- the work is already paying dividends.

"[Tracy] took a hard fall seven years ago in 2002 and he said he was never able to dunk off his left leg [since]. We got him dunking off his left leg four and a half months post micro-fracture, which is basically unheard of," Reavy says. "The results that we get here are basically unprecedented because we take the force off the injured area, we make the body absorb the force equally, so that it can heal properly and faster without the loading that it's constantly getting before.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Veteran forward Juwan Howard signed a one-year contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, the team announced Thursday.

Howard a 15-year veteran, averaged 4.1 points in 42 games with Denver and Charlotte last season.

Terms were not disclosed.

"Juwan Howard will add a wealth of experience and veteran savvy to our young, talented roster," Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said in a statement. "We look forward to Juwan's contributions on the court and in the locker room."

The 6-foot-9 power forward was the 14th player added to the Blazers roster in advance of fall camp. The Blazers have looked this offseason at a number of big forwards, including Stromile Swift and Greg Ostertag, before going with Howard.

Howard, 36, has averaged 14.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 1,043 games. He has appeared in the playoffs four times, averaging 9.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

Howard was the fifth player selected in the 1994 draft.

I don't know if it's that much...but Tim is definitely making a lot of money with all the athletes he's helped get in tip-topform...Kobe, Wade, MJ, Tmac, Arenas, JO, etc...

I have a feeling that if the refs lockout that the NBA officiating will be 4 times as bad as it already is.

Stated in the ESPN piece, he was loyal to his first trainer that he had in the past 11 years or so. His wife and Luther Head of all peopleconvinced him to give Grover a try. Good thing he did. Same thing with Arenas and hopefully other injury-plagued players. Where you at Yao Ming?

WOW..Juwan Howard still gettin paid.

He was one of the 1st 100 million dollar guys.

Hope he played for FREE after stealing money for years.
NBA locks out refs
By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports 23 minutes ago

The NBA has locked out its referees, Yahoo! Sports has learned.

After failing to reach an agreement with its game officials, the NBA will start referee training camp with replacements next week.

Talks ended on Thursday, when the league and NBA Referee's Association were unable to come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement. The NBA will use Developmental League and WNBA officials to start the preseason, and perhaps, the regular season.

"The proposals we have made to the NBRA are extraordinarily fair and reasonable, given the current economic circumstances," the NBA's Executive Vice President and General Counsel Rick Buchanan said in a league memo. "Since late 2008,

the league and our teams have made far deeper cuts in non-referee headcount and expenses than we are asking for here.

"It is extremely disappointing that the NBRA has ignored the economic realities, rejected our offer, and left us with no choice but to begin using replacement referees."

The union believes that the NBA is asking for too many give backs in the league's current proposal, and voted 57-0 among its officials to reject the NBA's latest offer.

NBA star Delonte West arrested on weapons charges

(AP) - 16 hours ago

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West was arrested Thursday after officers pulled him over for speeding on a motorcycle whilecarrying two loaded handguns and a loaded shotgun in a guitar case.

Prince George's County police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Reedy said Friday the Cleveland Cavaliers player was arrested about 10 p.m. Thursday.

Reedy said West was riding a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle north on the Capital Beltway in Upper Marlboro when he cut off an officer, who pulled him over.

Police said a handgun was found in his pocket, another in his pant leg and a shotgun in a guitar case strapped to his back.

Reedy said West "was very cooperative, there were no issues" during the incident.

The 26-year-old West, who lives in Brandywine, was charged with speeding and weapons counts. It is illegal to carry concealed weapons and to transportloaded guns in Maryland, according to police. Reedy said West was released on his own recognizance early Friday.

Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry said the team was monitoring the situation.

"We have been in communication with Delonte and his family," Ferry said in a statement. "We are gathering more information and will not havefurther comment until the appropriate time."

Online court records did not list an attorney for West.

Last year, West left the Cavaliers' training camp to seek treatment for depression and a "mood disorder" he said he has battled his entirelife. At the time, he said he was taking medication and attending therapy sessions. West said his mood problems date to his childhood.

West has said his mood swings seem to be most erratic when his life seems to be in order.

Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a Prince George's County police spokesman, said West was carrying a Beretta 9mm handgun, a Ruger .357 magnum handgun, and aRemington 870 shotgun. Copeland said the penalties West could face if convicted had not been determined.

Spurs ain't jokin' around this summer ...they just added another perimeter defensive guy who can knock down the 3. They've easily had the best offseason of any team this summer. R.J., Blair,McDyess, Theo Ratliff. I can't even hate, and I'm a Rockets fan.
