I think it's silly to assume they couldn't make one 3-4 hour film. Order of the Phoenix was the longest book in the saga and it had one movie.

The only reason I can see is to make more money.

Serious question...are you familiar at all with the book?  All the detail and story wouldn't fit in 150 min or so.  Of course having it split and released during the 4th quarter and then summer wouldn't hurt the box office take either.

... have you read the last book? Not something you can produce into a 2.5 hour film (or even 3 hrs for that matter) without skipping lots of stuff. I don't see this being a problem however because collectively, the movies have done very well, and while some weren't as good as others, they all were entertaining as hell, and well done. Im def lookin forward to see this being wrapped up nicely!
