Newer retro release vs older retro release???

Hey guys,

Just starting to try to build/start my collection with some shoes I really like but have a question regarding retros. Would you rather purchase a newer release of an OG than an older one since neither are the original anyways? For example a dead stock 2003 air safari in the Biz Markie compared to the 2012 air safari release in the same colorway if they were the same price.

Part of me feels like the old pair would be sweet to have, but the other part of me says why the hell wouldn't you just get the brand new ones that look exactly the same. Also, are there issues with buying 10+ year old sneakers and them falling apart fairly quickly?

some will fall apart and some wont. depends entirely on what material the midsole was made out of. if the shoe is polyurethane, use caution; anything else, your prolly fine. also look at the air bubbles, if they are cloudy, it means they will eventually get brittle and shatter.

quality on retros in general is not even close to the OG in most cases. but if your comparing older retro to newer retro, then get the newer one. also, wear your shoes, they will last longer if you wear them at least once a month than if you dont.

Ok that makes sense. Yeah particularly right now I am going on a safari binge and really like the old mowabb release and such from 2003-2004 but I want to be able to wear them and not have them fall apart after 10 wears. Maybe I am better off picking up slightly used pairs that may have gotten some action over the years rather then the dead stocks that have been sitting and just try to clean em up a bit if I can. I am not sure what the bottom material of the safari/vortex type shoe is but even my newer ones seem to crease/indent easy. I didn't know that about the air bubbles I'll have to keep an eye out.

If you can afford to buy earlier release retro it would be much better then buy the newer ones. The quality of materials that they use last longer, and feel better on your feet
