James Cameron offers new details on Avatar sequels

Director James Cameron’s plans for Avatar sequels have seemed like mostly talk for many years now, but the director is finally going full steam ahead on the films, the first of which will arrive in theaters eleven years after the original movie. Speaking with Vanity Fair, Cameron spoke about the sequels and his re-teaming with his Titanic star Kate Winslet.

“She’s very excited about it,”
the director says of the Oscar winner’s involvement. “She blazed through for a couple of days of rehearsals and saw the world that we had created, and how we do the work, and she’s very excited. She plays a character who’s part of the Sea People, the reef people. The one thing she did do is demand that she do all her own water work. I said, ‘All right, that’s fine, we’ll have to teach you how to free dive.'”

Cameron went on to reveal some information about a scene they recently shot involving not only child actors, but underwater and performing simultaneously.

“The other actors are up to three- and four-minute breath holds. We’ve already been doing underwater capture. We did a scene last week with six teenagers, well, actually five teenagers and one 7-year-old underwater holding their breath for a couple minutes and acting, actually doing a dialogue scene under water because they speak kind of a sign language.”

The director also spoke about the now meme-worthy amount of delays the film has had, saying:

“I wouldn’t call them delays. It was highly optimistic that we could start quickly until scripts are written. If there’s no scripts, there’s nothing, right? The scripts took four years… We’re doing very well because of all the time that we had to develop the system and the pipeline and all that. We weren’t wasting time, we were putting it into tech development and design. So when all the scripts were approved, everything was designed. Every character, every creature, every setting.”

Cameron also seemed to air on the side of caution about the fourth and fifth films which are planned, noting that audiences have to return for the second and third movies.

“Let’s face it, if Avatar 2 and 3 don’t make enough money, there’s not going to be a 4 and 5. They’re fully encapsulated stories in and of themselves. It builds across the five films to a greater kind of meta narrative, but they’re fully formed films in their own right, unlike, say, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, where you really just had to sort of go, ‘Oh, sh*t, all right, well I guess I better come back next year.’ Even though that all worked and everybody did.”

Returning from the original film are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald and Sigourney Weaver. Cliff Curtis and Oona Chaplin are also joining the sequels. Cameron recently explained that Stephen Lang’s Colonel Miles Quaritch is coming back for all four sequels and will be the main villain throughout the story. Filming officially started on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 on September 25, 2017. Shortly after, James Cameron announced young cast members for the sequel, which include the Sully family and children from the Metkayina Na’vi clan who live near ocean reefs, led by Tonowari (Cliff Curtis). The only actor who will appear in live-action playing a non-CGI character is Jack Champion as Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teen born at the Hell’s Gate military complex seen in the first film.

20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment previously announced release dates for the four Avatar sequels. Avatar 2 will be coming to theaters on December 18, 2020, and will be followed by Avatar 3 on December 17, 2021. Filming will then begin on Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, which will be released on December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025.

SCOOBY-DOO Spinoff Movie DAPHNE AND VELMA Announced; Due Out On Television In 2018

Daphne and Velma will follow the two titular characters as they bond with each other and solve mysteries. Daphne transfers to Velma's school, Ridge Valley High, and the two began to investigate weird occurances happening around school. Jinkies!

Here is the official press release:

Warner Bros. Television Group’s digital studio Blue Ribbon Content is currently in production on “Daphne and Velma,” a live-action feature-length film reimagining the origins of Mystery Inc.’s fierce female duo, Daphne Blake and Velma Dinkley. From Ashley Tisdale and Jennifer Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions, the film, currently shooting in Atlanta, will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in 2018.
Sarah Jeffrey (Shades of Blue) and Sarah Gilman (Last Man Standing) star in the title roles as Daphne and Velma, respectively.

“Blondie Girl is committed to telling stories from a female perspective and we could not be more thrilled to give Daphne and Velma their own story,” said Ashley Tisdale and Jennifer Tisdale, producers and founders of Blondie Girl Productions. “It’s so exciting to partner with Warner Home Entertainment and Blue Ribbon Content to introduce a new generation to the smart, charismatic, fearless females that we all know and love.”

“We wanted to give the audience a new take on these two familiar faces, who are fan favorites in the Scooby-Doo universe,” said Peter Girardi, Executive Vice President, Blue Ribbon Content & Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, Warner Bros. Animation. “Daphne and Velma are two iconic and strong female characters, and this latest adventure of theirs will be both inspiring and entertaining for the audience.”

Before their eventual team-up with Scooby and the gang, bright & optimistic Daphne and whip-smart & analytical Velma are both mystery-solving teens who are best friends but have only met online — until now. Daphne has just transferred to Velma’s school, Ridge Valley High, an incredible tech-savvy institute with all the latest gadgets provided by the school’s benefactor, tech billionaire Tobias Bloom. And while competition is fierce among the students for a coveted internship at Bloom Innovative, Daphne and Velma dig beyond all the gadgets and tech to investigate what is causing some of the brightest students in school to disappear — only to emerge again in a zombie-fied state.

“Daphne and Velma” is produced by Blue Ribbon Content and Blondie Girl Productions with Production Services provided by Lifeboat Productions Inc. Ashley Tisdale (High School Musicalfranchise), Jennifer Tisdale (Bring It On: In it to Win it), Amy Kim (Confess, Alive in Denver), Jaime Burke (The Pact) and Suzi Yoonessi (Olive and Mochha: First Kiss) serve as producers, with Yoonessi also directing from a script written by Kyle Mack & Caitlin Meares.

Since WB is doing it can't wait for rumors of Daphne and Velma being dark, sexy, and violent.

Could be a nice change of pace for the two

Side note, I actually enjoyed the live action scoring doo movies that Cartoon Network did. wish they would've made made more

If Chris Evans could do the Snake voice. :wow: :pimp:

'Hellboy' Reboot Sets 2019 Release Date

David Harbour's version of the characters hits theaters Jan. 11, 2019.

Hellboy is just a little over a year from returning to theaters.

Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have set a release date of Jan. 11, 2019 for the reboot that stars David Harbour as the wise-cracking, well-meaning half-demon. The Descent and Game of Thrones' helmer Neil Marshall is directing the project, which also stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is penning the script with Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden. Mignola created Hellboy in 1993 as an indie comic about a demon, raised by a professor, working to fight supernatural evildoers for an organization called Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Ron Perlman played the character in two films directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Those films, released in 2004 and 2008 were well-loved by fans and helped propel the character to new levels of popularity.
