Interesting - I realized I misspoke when you mentioned the $250 cost was for one team, so obv they can produce them at higher numbers for a lower cost. I wondered if it was done by vacuum metallizing, but once I saw how easily mine chipped off, I figured it was just some coating that was inexpensive. I'm not familiar with the process, beyond what I've read, but I thought that vacuum metallizing would've been a bit more durable. Thanks for the info though, sounds pretty specific.Originally Posted by bullets14
i was talking about the cost of producing one cleat at a time with the "chrome" finish. the finish is not metal but it is called vacuum metalizing. here is a link to a company that does this. http://www.muellercorp.com/
The $250 is the cost for full custom for only about 40 players. The Chrome 4.2's were "limited" but still available to the masses. Nike could very well sell every one of their cleats with chrome bottoms for just a few more dollars. there is a cost each time they have to chrome one pair, so it is cheaper to do to the masses. Also, the bottom plate needs to be "chromed" before it is actually applied to the shoe. That is why it probably wont be an option for any NikeID cleats.
For Example, The chrome lacrosse vapors and huaraches are selling for more than their regular model. The vapors are $10 more and the huaraches are $15.

I go with NFL-issued black/white elite remixes. Best looking gloves I've ever seen, don't think they'll ever be topped.Originally Posted by dreClark
