This crossed my mind as well... not "scary", but really messed-up.  That ending.

But for good ol scary classics... can't go wrong with The Exorcist and The Shining.

Halloween's around the corner & I'm looking forwarding to sleepless nights due in great part to a mindf*** of a movie.

Please respond.

It's not shot like a traditional movie.  It's shot like someone is holding a video camera like The Blair Witch Project.

There is no plot, barely any dialogue, just gory scenes of rape, mutilation, guts, blood, vomit, poop.  I wouldn't even call it scary - just disgusting and gory.

Yeah I did a quick google search and I totally agree, I hate how majority of horror movies nowadays are all about gore.  There should be a genre just for them

hmm is it? ill look into it..walking dead was pretty scary s1 eps 1. the show is more so straight fear and tension of waiting for something bad to happen, not so much pop out of nowhere frights. this is why i think its one of the best shows on TV.

Thread is appreciated, the horror genre has been saturated with gore porn flicks

and less focus on actual fear. you guys dropped some good films im gonna check out.

i was real young when i saw this (and I was in haiti) but my cousin threw this on for me...voodoo zombie flick (based on true story).

Yo the serpent and the rainbow was crazy! I remember as a kid going through the aisle at the old video store and that $#%@ would always stand out...decided to watch it and it had me shook for days.

Just saw the trailer for a movie called Grave Encounters on youtube. Look it up if you haven't seen it. I've never seen the film but it looks pretty creepy judging by the trailer

I just saw this the other day
silent-house-poster_280x415-202x300.jpg

It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

More suspense than scary but it was pretty good.

P.S. The movie is in one continuous shot... very

no way! never seen a movie like that..

The Killer: What's your favorite scary movie?
Drew Decker: Kazaam! You know, the one where Shaq plays a genie.
The Killer: That's not a horror movie.
Drew Decker: Yeah, well, you've never seen Shaq act.

Word. Basically the director attempting to use shock tactics. Absolutely no substance. Pedophilia, rape, torture and OD on gore is not "scary."

They make M. Night Shyamalan's worst pieces of work come off as genius in terms of pure "horror."

ay word to me, moms showed me child's play 1 (chucky jawn) when i was like 5-6 right...word to everything i hold sacred, the day i watched that movie the day my childhood ended. i was shook for yrs son. like, would literally go to sleep with the cover over my head hahahaha. it was gimey yo. she did it on purpose hahahaha. i can watch it now no beef, but back in the day, it ruined me lol. made sleepovers hard as %$*#. like i would go to them no prob, but would just chill in the cut awake all night and sleep when i got home the next day lol smh

That's the point. Its sole purpose is to disturb you to your core. Movie wasn't made to be some ground breaking award winning masterpiece
laugh.gif
just some bored psychopaths with a camera. Wouldn't even consider it true horror, I just like recommending it to people in hopes they'll actually watch it.

It doesn't even succeed in doing that though. It almost has a non-existent plot. The fx are really good, but you can't shake the viewer without following at least some basic film making protocol. Gets super boring quick. Menace II Society, City of God were more disturbing to me.

Hostel has the same type of "shock" value...but adds in a plot, some humorous twists, decent characters...much better movie (and it wasn't even good IMO
laugh.gif
)

Anyone can sit around a table and think of twisted ways to kill people on film. But that's just copping out unless you add in the elements of film making. The only thing you can take away from AUM is special fx.

I'm not knocking your taste I'm just arguing against it because this is a "scary" movie thread and it wasn't scary at all. Maybe just something to watch for the experience. But if people want to be really grossed out and disturbed they should hit up some Mexican cartel video clips.

Oh I feel you, as a movie its terrible. Just a nice shock film. I can tell youre a "real" movie fan though, you look past the content to gauge the film. To the average movie goer this movie will nuke their mind. I recommend it for the same reason I used to link people to goatse
laugh.gif

Its like if /b/ collaborated with a special fx studio and released a straight to VHS movie

A Haunting In Connecticut. Not the movie that was released in theaters, but the actual documentary one from Discovery Channel. Spooks the hell out of me to this day, and if you live in a home with stairs........RIP

I'd watched shockumentaries as well (pre-internet gore/shock videos for those who don't know). I was able to sit through that too, maybe wincing at a few scenes. After hearing people go on about The Exorcist, I decided to give it a go. This was on a whole new level. It %+!$#+ with me. I grabbed the remote about 1/3 of the way in and just started fast forwarding parts just to get through it. The Shining %+!$#+ with me because I had no idea what to expect. I was thinking 'okay dude goes crazy and starts wiping out people with an ax'. But to see his slow decent into madness coupled with some weird-@%! random scenes just creeped me the #!%% out.

This.  This.  And more this.  Shining is HANDS DOWN the scariest movie I've ever seen for this reason.  The part where she's running up the steps, looks into that room, and the bear is going down on dude?  That scene still messes with me to this day!  I know people will clown, but Blair Witch Project was that way for me too.  I had trouble sleeping for weeks after seeing both of those movies.

The Strangers was another one that I didn't think much of when I first saw it, but the more time passed, the more it messed with me.  Just people out looking to murder someone, and pick a random house?  Maaaan.

  Peace,
  J

Strangers creeped me all the way out

.

Not gonna lie, sometimes when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom "Is Tamber there?" still crosses my mind and effs me up, haha.

And I LOVE the Halloween series, but mostly just 1, 2, and 4.  3 didn't have anything to do with anything, and was just a horrible film.

  Peace,
