This is why I hate sports and why I dislike people that are overly enthusiastic about sports.

please elaborate.

you hate sports because these sports leagues/organizations are "taking advantage" of young african american men by paying them millions of dollars and "forcing" them to entertain the masses?

you dislike people who support these slave driving organizations?

lets take a step back and not overanalyze the situation.  just because most of professional sports are dominated by African Americans and sporting events are patronized by non African Americans doesn't mean that its a damn circus of blackfolk for the benefit of +@#@%%.

Chris Rock/Bill Maher put it in better context of why they hate sports/nba/etc, but I hate sports because everyone thinks they belong to a certain team "just" because they like em. Also so much BS happens just because you like a diff. team then the next guy, it's almost like being in a gang. Another reason is when the draft comes and GMs/owner are talking about their players like they own them (which they do) which just makes me think of the ol' slave masters trading big strong slaves for 5-10 reg. slaves.

Yes, I don't like people that support sports such as the incident in NY where the Yankee stadium was built with taxpayer's money. Then the taxpayer's complain about taxes but still go to the games and pay ridiculous prices for food/tickets/etc all for the sake of the team(gang) they belong to.

Fam, you act as if being paid millions of dollars automatically makes right, a system that is indeed VERY much screwed up to the point where correlations to slavery can be drawn.

Sure, an athlete is paid millions of dollars, but if you take into consideration the revenue stream that each athlete (or the collective team) generates for franchise/owner, you can very well say that they're being taking advantage of. This is the truth irrespective of race(s) of the athlete(s) involved.

Now with respect to black athletes, emphasis on the new generation of athlete, you can outright state that they're being taking advantage off. Fact is, if they don't fully understand the complexities of what they're doing, and what they're embarking on, then they're being taking advantage off.

And it's an easy thing to do.

If you survey a classroom of young African American males on what they want to become when they grow up, you can bet your *** that a good percentage will say something along the lines of playing professional sports. IDrinkYourMilkShake can testify to this.

We've been taught, subliminally, to value money and all that it affords instead of an education. Even when we've be afforded a free education, we do the least bit to get by if anything at all. Ask half of the FSU football team how and why they flunked? Ask numerous top college BBall prospects why they're having such a hard time with their SATS and basic academics? Ask many former NBA players why 60% of them go broke after leaving the league (constituted in large part by A.A) even though they made millions during their tenures? Ask these questions and then come tell me with a straight face that most of individuals haven't been taking advantage off all of their lives.

I remember my cousin made a comment back when LeBron got his $90 million Nike contract (or whatever it was) saying something to the effect of "if I were these guys, I would take all that money in Nike stock" and I didn't really get the bigger picture then, but now I do. It's about ownership of something that can generate more wealth and income, rather than just taking the money and blowing it on material things. I think it's a mentality thing, and sadly (as mentioned above me) these guys don't see that they are being taken advantage of.

How? The owner deserves his cut and  he puts them in a position  to make millions. If you owned a store, you'd split evenly with  the    construction  crew even though   you put your blood sweat and money  into  purchasing/building a business? Maybe they need better     agents.

You're making it sound like they're underage porn stars.

That  goes for mostly  all kids. Who didn;t want  to play  for the Cowboys/Bulls growing up?

Seems like an   community  problem  not Roger Goodel   problem

word. Also the whole mets vs. yankees thing in ny has reached absurd levels many times. I used to wear both caps just to mess with peoples heads sometimes and never understood why they related to a particular team more than to themselves even. Sports are entertaining but people take it to extreme levels such as soccer gangs in europe. At the end of the day even if ur teams wins it all u dont get anything out of it unless u bet on games, which is an issue in itself.

When ppl they think of the NBA they think of Lebron, Kobe, Jordan successful and role-model type athletes. What about the D grade players who earned couple of hundred thousand and then get tossed? Players usually are exploited for their athleticism in the prime of their lives, they get large amounts for it, but after that they are no longer needed. They are let go, sold off....so in a sense i can see the whole slave analogy. Not everyone gets their own shoe, not everyone gets sponsored by nike, we are obsessed with "winners" and never pay any attention to the losers. How can we get the full perspective of how the league and sports in general operate? The analogy aint too far-fetched imo and money doesnt always justify the means.

You are correct, but whether you know it or not, not too many people from low-income areas truly believe they have a chance to make it in this world if it isn't by way of entertainment (sports and music). While that is a sad mindset, it is a true mindset. These individuals don't believe they can make it academically.

But that is all part of the plan. But we can make it academically, we just need motivation and support from people that look like us that have made it.

So when I say it isn't voluntary for them, it really isn't voluntary for them because to them, there are no other options.
Well said

If I could play basketball 6-8 months out of the year and make millions of dollars doing it... why would I let my race stop me from doing that?

The guy who did those pics probably tried out and didn't make the team.
