%+$! the padres!! you know better! cabron!
I say your own last name. I rather have Valenzuela as Dodger jersey.
THURSDAY, 9:08am: According to Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times, Boras told reporters this morning that he's "in the middle of negotiations" with the Dodgers. It'd be surprising to see the team budge from the offer that's on the table.
Dodgers, Mientkiewicz Agree To Terms
By Drew Silva [February 26 at 10:41am CST]
According to Tony Jackson of the Los Angeles Daily News, the Dodgers have agreed to terms with Doug Mientkiewicz on a minor league contract.
Mientkiewicz will join spring training camp once he passes a physical. He's no Manny Ramirez, but, as Jackson writes, he "might have a good chance of making the club to fill that role that Nomar Garciaparra filled last year." Mientkiewicz, 34, hit .277/.374/.379 last season with two home runs and 30 RBI in 285 at-bats for the Pirates.
I think my gripe has been answered (in the Dodger Season Thread):
And once again Ironman, our bench is very garbage at this point. Don't remind me about Mark Sweeny, our lefty specialists on the bench at this moment are Juan Pierre and Delwyn "Pee Wee" Young.
I'm not asking for the McCourts to be Steinbrenner Vol. 2, what the hell is the direction Ned & Co are trying to go? I'm tired of this cat and mouse game with Manny ... if these dudes would seriously put their egos aside and negotiate like men (with boras thats impossible), get something done whether you say we're not gonna resign Manny, just move the hell on.
We have too many needs to address than to keep playing this cat and mouse game.
I guess you expect for the worst, but hope for the best will be the motto all year.
I was wondering who was gonna be the lefty on the bench (esp backup Loney @ 1st). Mientkiwicz can be a very solid addition to the bench. I wasvery@ the thought of the roster of Hu / Abreu etc being what we were going into theseason with. We can't settle anymore as fans, its FREAKING time!!!
Looking back at it (new additions):
Manny (soon!)
Hudson
Mientkiwicz
Loretta
Randy Wolf
Mota
Furcal (resigned)
Blake (resigned)
I know I'm missing a guy or two, I believe a lefty reliever is to be had at a bargain (beimel, ohman or reyes) and another starter (if pedro does well inthe wbc).
We can really make some noise, no more barely .500 in the NL West, it's time to run away with it.
GM unsure if sides are close to deal
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- General manager Ned Colletti called the Los Angeles Dodgers' latest offer to Manny Ramirez a "significant concession" by the team but said he's not sure how close the sides might be to a deal.
Colletti and owner Frank McCourt met Wednesday in Los Angeles with Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, and offered the free-agent slugger a $25 million, one-year contract with a $20 million player option for 2010.
"It obviously gives Manny a lot of flexibility. If he were to agree to something like that, then nine, 10 months from now he is free to try the market again," Colletti said Thursday. "So if you have the chance to be guaranteed or the chance to do something else, it's a pretty good spot to be in."
The offer is similar to the two-year, $45 million deal with a buyout or club option that the Dodgers put on the table in November. Ramirez refused the offer and the Dodgers withdrew their proposal. The team came back with a one-year, $25 million offer, but Ramirez turned that down as well.
Colletti and McCourt made the new offer during a meeting with Boras in McCourt's office in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, after Colletti flew over from the Dodgers' spring training complex in Phoenix.
"It's more powerful when the owner of the franchise is involved in the meeting," Colletti said.
Colletti, in Scottsdale on Thursday for the Dodgers' exhibition game against San Francisco, said he hadn't heard from Boras before the game.
"We expect to hear from Scott. I don't know what we're going to hear," Colletti said. "I don't get optimistic. A deal is either done or it is not done."
Colletti said there was not necessarily a hard deadline and that Ramirez was not yet needed in spring training.
"With the season starting a week later, it's a little bit more flexible than it might have been a year ago," Colletti said.
The Dodgers open the regular season April 6 at San Diego.
Ramirez hit .396 with 17 home runs and 53 RBIs in 53 games with the Dodgers last season while leading them to the NL West title after he was acquired from Boston at the July 31 trade deadline.

PHOENIX (AP) - Manny Ramirez has rejected yet another offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Dodgers announced Thursday night the star outfielder's agent Scott Boras had declined the offer - a $25 million, one-year contract with a $20 million player option for 2010 - the club's fourth this offseason.
Dodgers owner Frank McCourt says he wants Ramirez back "but we feel we are negotiating against ourselves."
General manager Ned Colletti and McCourt met Wednesday in Los Angeles with Boras.
The offer is similar to the two-year, $45 million deal with a buyout or club option that the Dodgers put on the table in November. Ramirez refused the offer and the Dodgers withdrew their proposal. The team came back with a one-year, $25 million offer, but Ramirez turned that down as well.

We all knew both sides had to put their egos aside to get this deal done.
In my opinion, I see a 3 yr $60M with that 3rd yr player option - loaded with incentives or something.
Manny wants to get paid, he understands his value in a big market in Los Angeles and he knows McCourt can cough up the cash, but the Dodgers are really bidding against themselves.
It's back to the drawing board, but there's still plenty of time to negotiate.
