I'm not sure how much 1B Thome can actually play.

Mientkiewicz isn't coming back, Belliard isn't going to play 1B

I love the Thome move though. I'm sure he'll want to go Matt Stairs on the Phillies this October

Thome started 3 games at 1B in 2006, 1 in 2007, and none the past 2 seasons.

I don't think he was aquired to see any shine playing D.

Like PMAC said, a Matt Stairs-esque role would be ideal.

Players like that are so valuable, looks like Thome still has some pop left and that's what we need.

SI.com's Jon Heyman says the Dodgers have acquired Jim Thome. The White Sox will receive infielder Justin Fuller in the deal, and are sending cash to LA that will presumably cover part, or all or Thome's salary according to Mark Gonzales of The Chicago Tribune.

The Dodgers were reportedly seeking a run-producing bat off the bench, and Thome would certainly fit that description. It remains to be seen how the 39-yr old Thome will be used in Chavez Revine however, as the National League doesn't have a DH. Thome has played just 28 innings at first since 2005.

The Garland move I can see, but the Thome pickup seems odd to me. They're just going to use him to pinch hit? Thome playing first is not a good look thesedays.
