Very true and that is the case. I usually get the sales papers the day of Thanksgiving and most of the sales items are usually garbage. My wifewent out in the mess last year and got back home right before it was time for me to head out to work. I'm off the day after Thanksgiving this year andhighly doubt that I will be heading out in to that mess especially considering I usually DJ the night of Thanksgiving. Who knows though, this year may bedifferent and I may see a 46" plus tv that I want for the front room so I can move the 42" to the bedroom.Originally Posted by SharpiePoint
To each man his own opinon, that's just what I notice when it comes to corporate franchises. Too many people embrace black friday like it's the BEST time to shop throughout the whole year and stores take advantage of folks that come in flocks to buy whatever they put out.Originally Posted by CincoSeisDos

I would actually like to say most overrated shopping day of the year. Most companies are just trying to get rid of their excess stock that is usually old crap...
old =/= crap

With that said, how do I get an HDTV for example once the store opens and I'm the first few in line?
Is it a mad scramble to the TV section and first person to get the TV gets it? Or is it more organized. Any help from the vets, please help out the rookies.

It depends. Here are the various systems from what I've seen in the past:
Best Buy - customers line up in a line that normally extends around the building. Around 4:00am, employees come out and hand out vouchers for the various "hot ticket" items (TV's, Laptops, DVD players, etc.) to those first in line (most will take one of each and try to sell the ones they don't want to those farther back in line). Those holding a voucher are guaranteed to get that item. So get there early.
Wal-Mart - it's a free for all. Normally a line will start outside the non-grocery entrance of the store for those wanting doorbuster items. Others who are doing grocery shopping enter through the grocery entrance and are allowed to come and go as they please, but they're not allowed to get doorbuster items. Once it hits 5am, the doors are open and it's a mad dash to wherever the pallets of doorbusters are located (normally toward the front of the store) DO NOT RUN TO THE ELECTRONICS DEPARTMENT BECAUSE THEY'RE PROBABLY NOT LOCATED THERE!
Target - free for all at opening time...usually 5:00am
Circuit City - Same as Best Buy (from what I've noticed in years past)
Sears - free for all at opening time. They normally give out $10-20 gift cards to the first 100 through the door.
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
