jailbreaking the iPhone allows you to install custom themes and user made packages/mods/apps. You can also install apps for free (using one of those custom packages). It basically opens up the possibilites for the phone. Unlocking it takes one more step and opens the phone up to another carrier. Jailbreaking wont turn your phone into a brick tho.
As far as text notifications go, im rocking with the power rangers communicator sound right now, so it can be done. It just takes a little FTP work
I think I'm gonna jailbreak my 3GS tonight. Can someone help me out on how to change the SMS notification?

So my 2g Unlocked/jailbroken iPhone wouldn't charge at all, so I tried hard resetting it, and then i tried to delete all the data on the phone, but when Idid so, it just turned off, and now all i can do is turn the power button on, and it just shows the apple icon, and then it turns off again... anyoneexperience this or know what to do ?

my friend got his 3g exchanged right when the 3gs came out. i think it had to be withing 30-60 days to be eligible for it. you might of passed that window ofopportunity by now.
