At times when Melo back down his opponent, he sometimes push off. But TOOOO many times when he drives, he gets whacked all over the place.
Even when they deny him the ball he's always getting hacked. But when Melo does it its a foul

Not the face of the NBA but a foul is a foul !

i've been saying this, he needs to bite the bullet and complain about it, eat the 15k fine. Its getting ridiculous at this point.

That or the Knicks need to send in tape like that Mavs did with Dirk.

Melo is not the marketable face of the NBA that Lebron, Kobe and KD are. He is just as talented, but from a marketing/promotional stand point....Stern is not pumping Melo all over the place.

Has nothing to do with face but actual game.  They are just better.  You can say KD and Melo are close but KD is a "nice guy" on top of being the scoring champ.

Anyone got any unbiased theories on why Melo doesn't get respect from refs?

He's big and strong like LeBron and Griffin but isn't as explosive which allows their mid-air flops to be more lethal in drawing a foul. Kobe does a bunch of acting and berates the refs to the point that they just want to go home and cry. And Durant is mad skinny so it doesn't take much contact for him to get fouled pretty good. Melo's also more of a bully out there than those guys and really uses his shoulders and elbows moreso than just driving to the bucket to draw contact and get a foul call.

I mean refs can't be out here punishing the dude for being bigger, stronger, and playing physically. I can deal with touch fouls and glancing blows outside the paint. But when Melo gets to the rim and gets hacked you gotta call that. Fouls aren't about how you react to contact. Whether Melo flinches or not, its a foul.
