1. Rent still has to be paid in these semi empty buildings. So it is inefficient if people are working from home in that sense.

2. Has it been proven the quality of work done at home is on the same level had that work been done in the office? Legit asking.

Im much more efficient at home. Less distractions overall. I just put on cnbc in the side as white noise and can focus on work.

No it's true. It's just that team building/communication suffers. There are lots of articles in business journals and places like HBR.

2 things are critical to me. Trusting your employees. Facilitating communication for those people who are bad/reluctant, is key.

And punishing those who suck while not punishing those who don't.

The one thing employers hate is it makes employees less loyal to the company. Hence why they are trying to trying to make RTOs

I'm just explaining how/why allowing folks to work from home can be viewed as an inefficient practice from the perspective of those that have to pay the rent. Nothing futher.

I wasn't accusing.

I just don't think suffering the immediate expense of breaking a rental contract on an unoccupied office space would trump the prospect of reducing attrition rates/making employees happier by increasing their take home pay (without increasing salaries) and decreasing their commute time if productivity is there.

If they were demanding that your team return to the office 5x per week and you had to provide data/evidence supporting your claim that your team is more efficient while working remotely, what would you present?

Not trying to argue but just asking.

I’ll play…none of our workload has decreased and we don’t waste an hour walking to and from meetings. We can easily have meetings where the room reserved is a 10+ minute walk from our respective offices. My immediate team has 8 people on it, I think. Department just over 50. In person meetings were always a hassle.

We have touch down locations reserved for us on campus now. There’s always a handful of us somewhere on campus.
