Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I have no problem with the sixth place finish, though. About what I deserved.

The only problem I might have with anyone judging my team is shortchanging Adaptation. I probably could have selected it two rounds later, but there is no doubt in my mind that it was one of the best movies of that time span (and I despise Nicolas Cage, who plays TWO characters, so that should speak to how strong it is).

You try ranking every single one of those movies, it's hard.

And Shaun, Buried sucked.

Maybe if I have time instead of ranking them, I'll give each movie a grade, and add up the grades, on a kind of grade point system, it'd work much better, I'd think.

Word...and i know it seems like im just sayin that cuz i was last on his list, but really? He hated Oceans 11? Who hated that movie...it was entertaining as hell. 500 days of summer is meh??

casino royal overrated? really though? When it was THEE best bond movie of the decade...*sigh*... i dont have to be high up on your list or anything, but jeez i think the judging should be a little more suited towards the quality of the film as a whole...instead of whether or not the judge thinks it fits the genre...
I bet you haven't even seen Eternal Sunshine...

But yeah, i know i sound like im whining but I don't like judges grading based on genre only when they havent even seen all of the movies listed. How can you give points to movies you havent seen? I dont get it, there has to be a better way to judge

So this was how I planned on voting. The idea is I figure what I think were your best 5 movies and rate those out of 10 each, and then your next movies out of 5 each. I note whatever I don't really remember or haven't seen, but I'm not especially knocking you down for it.

I don't think ranking individual movies works.

I just try to rate em all fair and then organize it from the starters, with the bench considered. If your bench is deep that means something, if your starters are that solid, that makes up for a weak bench. I think this makes more sense than just ranking genres we squeezed movies into anyways.

Adaptation getting 3 points is insane, as is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind being ranked as one of the worst films.

I'm placing importance on genres, but after seeing that breakdown a numbers system like that is flawed. For the record I'll consider a tier system similar to Osh Kosh Bosh, but that won't be the only way I make my rankings, I'll look at the whole list.

No, I hadn't seen all the films, but I did a little research on each and saw what the general consensus on the film was.

I've seen Eternal Sunshine. As well as every single movie on your list. It's a romance/drama before anything else to me. It has elements of science fiction, sure. But to call it science fiction? I don't buy it. Sorry. District 9 is science fiction. MOON is science fiction.

I did my list on personal preference for each movie, I really don't care if you dislike it.

And yeah, Casino Royale WAS overrated. Saying that it's the best Bond movie of the decade isn't saying much.
laugh.gif
Each of those movies I felt was a lot better than Casino Royale. If you want to question about Casino Royale, please do. I don't see any of those films being inferior to Casino Royale, a cut and dry action film.

Yeah, it really is rather difficult. Giving movies like The Aviator a 7 when it's a great film really is kind of tough.

It should not be the judge's place to determine how good a film is relative to how well it fits into its genre. If it makes it into a genre category it should be in as a full member, not penalized for it.

Dude, its okay...i get it, not everyones gonna like my movies. But the way you gave out points was rediculous, thats all i was saying. You literally put Eternal Sunshine as one of the worst films in the draft... thats what 1 point means. Do you not realize how well respected that movie is, sci/fi or not? Thats all im saying. Im last on your list, i get it...whatever im not gonna cry about it

, but the way you came up with your list made absolutely no sense.

See, we're going on what it's classified as so yeah, you should probably do the same.

So Inception can be in horror and Cast Away can be in Comedy and it's alright?

I'm sorry, I just don't see Eternal Sunshine as a Science Fiction film.

I don't see science fiction anywhere on there, nor horror, clearly two genres it'd fit into.

The only reason it says science fiction is because there are themes of it in there. Like Zombieland with horror. Eternal Sunshine is a drama. And at that, a pretentious drama. I didn't like it at all. Maybe if it were under drama I could give it a few more points, but I wasn't a fan of the film. If you hadn't guessed, I'm not a fan of Kaufman's work. You can't force someone to like a movie just because everyone else does. I just didn't like the movie.
