An 18-year-old man was arrested Monday after he was found inside an ATM at a Bank of America lobby in Haverhill.David Haskell had cut a hole in the drywall above the Washington Square ATM, climbed into the back and was attempting to steal money from inside when an alarm sounded at 5:45 a.m."Somebody, a gentleman, tried to access the ATM through the roof as opposed to the regular way," building landlord Timothy Day said.Responding police officers realized someone was inside the ATM after noticing a hole in the drywall above the machine and hearing noises behind the wall."They noticed there was some damage above tie ATM. As they were standing there, they could hear some noise coming from behind the ATM," said Haverhill Deputy Police Chief Donald Thompson. "I think they might have been little surprised when the officer looked over the top of the machine and saw somebody staring back at them."Police said Haskell was trying to pay off a drug debt. He was arrested without incident.Haskell was charged with breaking and entering, malicious damage, larceny and possession of a class E drug. He will be arraigned Tuesday.
