Amid reports his season may be finished, Toronto Raptors ' forward Jorge Garbajosa will undergo medical testing on his injured ankle Monday.

Media in Garbajosa's native Spain reported Saturday that the 29-year-old has elected to undergo surgery on his sore left ankle and will miss the remainder of the season.

But Raptors' General Manager Bryan Colangelo disputed the report when reached during his team's 111-108 loss at Cleveland, which Garbajosa sat out.

"We have arranged for Jorge to consult with a specialist in Baltimore on Monday," Colangelo said in an e-mail. "Future treatment and therapy options remain undetermined at this point."

Garbajosa was placed on the injured list on Tuesday so team doctors could further investigate the results of an MRI on the same ankle he hurt last March during a game in Boston.

You'd think that a guy named ZaZa Patchula or Vujasuck would be out of the league by now too.

And he had the game to match.

in chinese, zhi zhi stands for penis.

so technically, his full name should be penis penis. i also recall a fellow niketalker wearing his jersey on a pyp thread. think it was ninjahood.

it's the same ankle he injured last year and was given permission to play on by the Raptors in the FIBAs for Spain, after being told not to.

I think these guys are the kind of guys that they just look at the boxscore and nothing else.

By your standard then almost every bench player who doesn't score 12 or more points are a waste of "NBA TIME".

Because bringing energy off the bench, making plays that don't show up in the stats, and playing solid defense is something that isn't anything ofvalue to a team.

CHEA CHEA CHEA CHEA!!!!

Seriously, I don't feel bad for this fool as much as I do for the Raptors and their fans. This guy was being selfish by opting to play for Spain this pastoffseason. If he looked at the bigger picture, he should have thought "I'll sit this Euroleague tournament out, prepare myself for the NBA season, then have myself completely ready for the Olympics in 2008". Now, the Raps are stuck paying for his medical bills, and now he's not going to have thecurrent NBA season to play in which would have kept him sharp for the Olympics.

Raptors got him insured before the Euro tourny began so I dont think the money will be that big of an issue.

Really? I heard that Spain only insured him for 3 months. Sounds like Toronto is on the hook for the rest of his contract too. http://www.boston.com/sports/articles/2007/09/09/a_foreign_concept_to_us/

Damn, I didnt realize it was for only 3 months...

Garbajosa has been trying to regain his form since his left fibula was fractured and his ankle severely damaged in a March fall in Boston. He went against theadvice of team doctors and played in September's European championships, but only after the Spanish basketball federation forked over a reported $1 million(all figures U.S.) for an insurance policy on Garbajosa's contract that expires Nov. 30. It's thought that insuring the approximately $8 million thatremains on his deal after that date will be prohibitively expensive for the club.
