So back in December I was browsing through the real estate for sale section on craigslist and happened to come across a project home that I really liked. The guy wanted 19k for it so I offered to trade him a vehicle worth the same amount and he agreed. I checked with the appraisal office to make sure he was the owner and everything checked out. A contract was written up that I was trading him the vehicle for the house. We do the trade and I start working on the house little by little. I'm at work and I get a call from the credit union where I bought the truck from and they asked if I knew my truck was impounded, I said no but thanks for letting me know. I tried calling the guy to see what was going on and his phone is disconnected so I go to an address I had down for him and when I get there the people who came out start getting loud saying the guy was a fraud/ scam artist. They then told me he was selling real estate that wasn't his. He knew someone in the city that was helping him out. I was then like ****! So I went to the police station to tell them and they said yea sorry but unfortunately he has done this to a lot of people but the good news was that if I found my truck it was legally mine again. After a taking a week off of work to find this guy the cops call me saying my vehicle was recovered and he was in custody. I had I go in and talk to them and give them any info on him so I did. The next day he gets bailed out and is now on the run again. So what I need help on is figuring out what happens to the house I thought was mine, it is in the city records online that I am 100% the owner. When I check the history of owners this guys name is no longer there. How can I find the real owner of this house if all it has is his name but no other info?
