Mavs Don't Want ToExtend Kidd Either?
Aug 20, 2008 4:21 PM EST

The lack of acontract extension was a big reason why Jason Kidd wanted to leave New Jersey, but rumor has it that there is no talk of him getting one in Dallas either, according to The Star-Ledger.

"It's just business," Kidd said of New Jersey. "We had a great run. Sometimes, with moves, business gets in theway. The sad thing is, nobody there is left from when we started the whole thing. I guess you could say they're starting over."

RealGM Note: Pacers GM David Morway told RealGM during the first week of August that they had yet to open up negotiations withGranger.

Granger was 46th in the NBA in season FIC and 'deserved' to make $11.11 million during the 07-08 season. Iguodala was ranked20th and 'deserved' to make $13.76 million and was 21st during his own third season in the NBA.

Devean George is terrible and a terrible fit for the Mavs. I'd take Mo-Pete over him anyday!!

I mean what was Carlisle thinking? He better be aware of some sort of super power Devean has that will help us, coz I sure as hell only see a fat unmotivated 3point hoisting bum.

The Mavericks won't re-sign Kidd if he's wanting 14 or 15 million a year, I'd be weary to even re-sign him for 8 million a year.

Regardless, next off-season makes or breaks the Mavericks.

Shootings of a pair of men in downtown Chicago may have resulted from a fight in a club where a party for Antoine Walker was taking place, according to The Post Chronicle.

The late Sunday night gunfire near Rock 'n' Roll McDonald's left one man dead and another in critical condition, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.

Walker's birthday party was held at Excalibur, a nightclub about a block away.

I really like those Hornets jerseys, the blue more than the white.

I think Granger deserves the money more than Iguodala.

After recently taking a look at veteran shot blocker Theo Ratliff, who since has signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Heat summoned veteran big men Jamaal Magloire, Lorenzen Wright and D.J. Mbenga to AmericanAirlines Arena. With perimeter-oriented Mark Blount and inexperienced Joel Anthony the only veteran centers under contract, the Heat has looked into a series of big men with the bulk to at least contend with the heft of conference opponents Zydrunas Ilgauskas of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Eddy Curry of the New York Knicks and Brendan Haywood of the Washington Wizards. South Florida Sun-Sentinel

The search also would provide insurance amid Alonzo Mourning's bid to return, at 38, from last December's devastating knee injury, with that rehabilitation possibly to continue beyond the turn of the calendar. South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Of Magloire's Thursday's visit, agent Bob Myers said it is a case of each side "getting a feel." "They're looking at him as an option. Most of the rest of it is up in the air," Myers said. The Heat has only its $1.9 million lower-level exception and the veteran's minimum available to sign free agents. South Florida Sun-Sentinel

While the re-signing of Dorell Wright certainly can be viewed as a somewhat cost-effective move, considering the two-year contract starts at the one-year qualifying offer he otherwise might have accepted, the question becomes where he fits in. For now, Shawn Marion starts at small forward and Dwyane Wade at shooting guard. They are, uh, both pretty good. South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Andrew Bogut, limping heavily toward Australia's locker room, said he feared the worst. "I think it's a ligament," Bogut said. Halfway around the world, the Milwaukee Bucks were holding their collective breath. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

"I stepped on Kobe's foot and rolled it," said Bogut
, who signed a five-year, $60 million contract with the Bucks earlier this summer. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

Former Orlando Magic GM John Gabriel has been hired by the Knicks as the club's new director of scouting. Knicks president Donnie Walsh also hired Misho Ostarcevic to be the team's director of player personnel. The moves come one month after Brendan Suhr's contract expired. Suhr, who was Isiah Thomas' top lieutenant, had served as an assistant coach to Thomas but was also in charge of scouting and player personnel. Glen Grunwald, the senior vice president of basketball operations, was also hired by Thomas but he survived the front-office purge. NY Daily News

The Dallas Mavericks and Devean George seemed to part ways after the season, but in a surprise move on Wednesday, the Mavericks announced that George had signed a two-year deal. "We are are excited to have DGeorge back," Dallas owner Mark Cuban wrote in an e-mail. "His ability to defend multiple positions and to get out and run will be of increasing value this year." Fort Worth Star-Telegram

After receiving U.S. government approval, Iranian center Hamed Ehadadi has been cleared to sign with NBA teams, Yahoo! Sports has learned. The NBA sent out an email to executives late Wednesday afternoon informing its 30 teams they were free to enter into negotiations with the 7-foot-2 Iranian Olympian, as well as one of his teammates on Iran's national team: guard Mohammadsamad Nik Khahbahrami. Yahoo

Just five days ago, the NBA had informed its general managers that they were forbidden to enter into negotiations with Ehadadi, pending a license from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control. The license was granted and Ehadadi, 23, who averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds for winless Iran in Beijing, is a free agent. Yahoo

Jose Calderon says he is fine but will still undergo a precautionary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan later Thursday for his strained adductor muscle. Toronto Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo said he spoke with Calderon, who plays for Spain in the Olympic men's basketball tournament, Wednesday night. The Raptors point guard told Colangelo that his strained muscle, located in the thigh, felt fine and that his NBA employer should not be worried. Globe and Mail

Theo Ratliff is back. The 76ers officially announced the signing of the 6-foot-10 center-forward, who first played with the Sixers from 1997 to 2001. Per team policy, the Sixers would not disclose terms of the deal, but a source has said Ratliff, 35, signed a one-year contract for the veteran minimum, about $1.4 million. The source said Ratliff had other offers on the table but preferred returning to Philly. This signing appears to be the final move of a hectic summer for Sixers president and general manager Ed Stefanski, who was forced to take this final step when backup center Jason Smith tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee early last week. Philadelphia Inquirer

The makeover of Oklahoma City's roster continued Wednesday when the team placed veteran forward Donyell Marshall on waivers. Marshall, who is entering his 15th NBA season, was acquired from Cleveland in mid-February as part of the 11-player, three-team deal that sent Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West from Seattle to Cleveland. The city of Seattle and Clay Bennett's ownership group have divvied up the artifacts of the NBA's past in the Pacific Northwest, with the details outlined in a settlement obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press. The agreement calls for Bennett's Professional Basketball Club to leave any banners, trophies and retired jerseys. Those will be placed in a curatorship at Seattle's Museum of History and Industry, although the new Oklahoma City franchise would be allowed to borrow them to put on display periodically and make copies. Just the same, Josh Boone admits he's willing to fight for his job as the starting center again in camp. He's just not going to relish another job challenge by diminishing the other guys. Newark Star-Ledger
Schultz Loses On Two KeyMotions
Aug 21, 2008 1:34 AM EST

okc_40.gif
Judge MarshaPechman has ruled against Harold Schultz on his request to "bifurcate" or split his lawsuit against Clay Bennett's ownership group into two partsbut ruled in favor of the NBA's request to intervene in the case, Greg Johns of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer is reporting.

Schultz, the former owner of the SuperSonics, has been trying to win back the team for Seattle.

"The sooner the Schultz lawsuit is heard, the sooner PBC [Professional Basketball Club, the owners of the Oklahoma Cityfranchise] will prevail," said Brad Keller, lead attorney for Bennett's legal team. "Schultz failed in his effort to stall the day of reckoningfor his meritless claims."

Schultz's attorney Richard Yarmuth had pushed to split the process into an initial "liability phase" trial to determinewhether Bennett's ownership group committed fraud in misleading Schultz's Basketball Club of Seattle concerning its willingness to find an arenasolution in Seattle.

Yarmuth felt the second "remedy phase" would then only be necessary if Schultz won the first battle, which would effectivelyhave eliminated the NBA's role in the initial trial since the league's involvement centers primarily on what happens if ownership of the team isremoved from Bennett's group.

But Pechman said the situation needs to be resolved quickly and "involves time-sensitive issues with potential ramifications formultiple third parties."
Heat Agree To Terms With Dorell Wright
Aug 20, 2008 9:26 PM EST

mia_40.gif
Dorell Wright has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Miami Heat, with his contract expected to be signed later this week, according to Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel.

Wright was a restricted free agent, with the Heat having the right to match outside offers.

With little outside interest, Wright will receive a deal that will start at roughly the $2.9 million qualifying offer he had been extended by the Heat for 2008-09.

RealGM Note: Despite playing in just 44 games, Wright was ranked 221st in season FIC and had a very good per 40 FIC of 12.2 (league median is around 10.0). He therefore 'deserved' to make $2.64 million last season, making the $2.9 million qualifying offer easy for Wright to beat assuming he stays healthy.

I like Dorell but he has to be more consistent. Unless we move Marion, I don't see a lot of playing time for him with Jones in the mix also.

We shall see, but i really feel Riles is positioning for a trade. We have a glut of forwards but still not legit decent center.

The Clippers renounced their rights to Livingston last month, making him an unrestricted free agent.

He has been working out, and taking part in full-scale pickup games with a few dozen NBA players.
