In a candid interview with XXL magazine Snoop Dogg has done the unthinkable, he's admitted to not writing one single line on his new album. Check thequote:
Back to the album. Initially, there weren't supposed to be any guest artists on Ego Trippin'. Why the switch?

It just happened. That might be me ego-tripping. The real ego-tripping on this record is that I let people write songs for me.
Singing songs? Rapping songs?

Everything.

Have you run out of things to say yourself?
Nah. I'm ego-tripping. I was watching Diana Ross getting inducted into a Hall of Fame, and she got up there and named all these great songwriters. Her biggest songs were written by somebody else. So I'm thinking, Wow, there's nothing wrong with my pen, but I'm going to let other people write for me.

nuttin wrong with his money either if he can pay people to write his whole album like diddy.

ya but it would seem real weird to listen to a snoop album knowing he didnt write or THINK the album.

Now, didn't we just have a similar discussion about Drake

?

Ghostwriting is common in all genres...except hip-hop. Hip-hop has progressed & now we have one of it's foremost artists admitting that he had someoneelse write his whole album.

Stand back. The floodgates will be completely open in a few years.

I knew this topic had come up before, sparked by an interview w/Monch.

I don't think it's as much of thing as it would've been a decade or two ago. Puffy popped our cherry to the idea of someone successfully spitting lyrics they didn't write.

damn that... puffy gets a pass cuz he told us flat out... im no rapper... he didnt get signed... he started the label...
i dunno i just think its VERYwack to have somebody write a whole joint for u... maybe get some help on a hook or idea or somethin but naaaah...

ill take some ghostwriter money tho...

this dude said successfully! I never understood how Diddy hiredghost-writers to write some of the wackest rhymes I ever heard in my life, take that take that. I mean, it wasn't just delivery, which he already sucksat, but the actual lyrics were horrible.

i believe diddy came up wit the "take that" himself... which was originally an ad lib on a biggie track... i think

^ Go check the sales for No Way Out and then come back & tell me it wasn't successful. If you mean artistically, to a certain degree, Puff pulled itoff so there was success there as well. And keepin it funky, cats like Dre, Puff, etc have made careers off their ear for music & sometimes delivering itthru rhymes. Hell, look @ their biggest "tribute" records - Puff's "I'll Be Missing You" and Dre's "Listen" off 2001.Neither actually wrote their own lyrics but probably had a certain amount of input involved in what was written, plus they did just fine delivering the tracks.

While sales are down, royalties are still up so writers are getting paid. And in this fickle industry where money and major deals are scarce or shiest as hell,I'd take $ over the fame any day.

Depending on who writes for you, people can consider it an honor to have someone GW for them...this is elemental in the R&B world.

IE; Jay and Dre

Oh I know, I was just making fun...

And if you meant successful as far as sales go, then yeah I would completely agree. And I also agree that Puff has a great ear for music and/or talent, but Istill can't figure out how he still had wack lyrics after hiring writers.

Weak!! Snoop made all the real money h was gonna make anyways. Its all downhill from here. Hope u _s are savin up!

DOC wrote a lot of @@% for Blue Carpet Treatment as well. I give Snoop a pass on this @@%. He's put in his work in the industry. He dropped his classicalbum.

Snoop is an OG... hes done alot 4 hip-hop... even tho im not for the whole gohst writin thing...I think he kan aford 2 tak an album off 4rm writin

ehh... its probably good snoop is getting writers... cuz usually he just freestyles something and because he has such a name people give him a pass for it.. atleast this will bring some effort into his work
