The Official NBA Season Thread: Player Option Day

More midrange specialists is the key to the league being more popular?
Essentially adding more differentiation to the league; 3s & dunk/layups are the standard that’s running things by a large margin.

And that’s ok with me but more varied skillsets that ppl excel at couldn’t hurt.

And who said that was the key? Just one of many possible solutions to help it along,

NBA is fine as is.

They do need to conduct some studies on the frequency of injuries though. You would think with modern medicine/footwear/travel and the same amount of games as in previous decades there would be fewer injuries.

How much is left on Russ contract? In my opinion, he should not accept anything less than full amount on buyout.

The league needs more midrange specialists and a return to more physicality. Idk, allow some form or degree of hand checking.

With all this high scoring and 40+ pt games explosions, the narrative is getting tired and there’s no end in sight.

Foulbaiting characters like James Harden need to discouraged from that behavior. They also seem to have backed off the flopping rules.

Trying to level the playing field somehow for a more gritty physical battle experience.

And on a different note, the league could use some hothead, wild, possibly unstable characters. Rodman, World Peace, Spree etc type dudes.
This
Nba script needs to be adjusted. League is too offensive friendly. It is glorified pickup.
Also, refs need to enforce a travel call every once in awhile

Is it really a cult following when it's as mainstream as they come?

Being the most popular thing in a country is the total opposite of being niche
I take it you're not really familiar with that expression . Basically the NFL has diehard fans that follow the league religiously no matter how garbage the product is. See: raider nation

I am but it's usually reserved for niche things though, not the most popular ones in their field

If it was just the diehards tuning in they wouldn't pull the best ratings of any single program on TV yearly.

It's like saying something like The Simpsons, Dallas/MASH or baseball had a cult following back in the day

Cult following =/= Niche following (in a vacuum)

Apple and Nike are as mainstream as they come and MOST CERTAINLY have cult followings
It stops being niche once it becomes the preeminant force/thing in their domains though.

Back in the day the whole hobby of collecting sneakers was niche. Now though? **** is as mainstream as iphones

Maybe I used the wrong phrasing. NFL has a cult-like following. Beyonce and Kanye have cult-like followings. Etc

So you're saying Apple and Nike DON'T have cult followings?

Any other player and this isn't a story but Kyrie doing this is funny. This one is going to come back and bite him in the ***

So you're saying Apple and Nike DON'T have cult followings?
By that definition then they have cult followings in the same fashion that the Marvel movies and Star Wars have cult followings then

They might have started out niche originally but there's nothing bigger out there than them now and they still have dedicated fanbases all the same.

Just find it weird calling dominant things within culture cult followings when that's normally reserved for more lowkey things before they gain mainstream popularity.

A sport like soccer or hockey have cult followings in the states rn, not the behemoth known as the NFL . That's been America's pastime for 50 years now
