The Official NBA Season Thread: Free Agency Day

The Blazers have constantly mismanaged the talent around Dame the last few seasons, he waited probably too late to finally cut bait with them but also was transparent about his feelings since the season ended. They both knew this separation was coming. Sure they COULD trade him elsewhere (Miami) and Dame would likely be a professional about it, but men's the NBA lexicon in mass would not be happy about that.

they need to help him like he’s helped them.

Also, Miami package isn’t terrible especially if you include this years 18th pick to 3 picks. Young player. Expiring salary.

Won't happen because the Warriors want to get out of the second apron after this season, but I want to see Chris Paul and Kuminga for KAT.

What were the other moves that Portland was supposed to make over the last few years?

Folks really wanted Portland to trade their lotto picks that resulted in Shaedon and Scoot so they could get some medium-tier support for Dame instead. In which case Dame would leave anyway and Portland would be chastised for trading away the future. Seems like every move they can/do make is setup to be a lose-lose in the court of public opinion.

He has helped them how exactly? Not diminishing his contributions but whatever he has accomplished for them clearly wasn't enough hence why he wants to leave. They helped him by giving him a super max extension last summer. This entire conversation is different if they didn't do that because he would have only had two year left on his deal and their would be no $58MM or $63MM years attached to it.

Hope James realizes he ain't got the same juice as before. Especially after Houston said no thanks to him and he saw what Kyrie re-signed for.
