I don’t think you evaluate a contract based on the specific team though, that’s kinda silly. The asset/liability is evaluated by where it stands across the league. We’re comparing him to one guy who literally hasn’t played basketball in basically 2 years and another guy who was truly awful to the point of being pulled from the rotation — and his new deal doesn’t even kick in until next year. Beal doesn’t even make that much more than Poole the next 2 years tbh.
Beal is set to make $30MM more than Beal over the next two years and $80MM over the remaining 4 years of their deals. And I hear what you are saying about evaluating the asset/liability compared across the league. This is what I see in 2023-2024 in the ballpark of Beal's $46.7MM salary next year....
FMVPs, MVPs and guys leading their teams to at least conference championships. Wizards are paying him to compete for the play-in. I can't get with Beal at that number at all, especially now that I'm seeing those around him. But I guess we just have differing views on the situation which is fine. Sports or armchair GM'ing wouldn't be any fun if we all had the same opinion
